I talked to HR today. The woman said there's nothing she can do to keep me in the company if my boss doesn't like me. She promised to try and find out what bothers my boss about me (since there are no other complaints against me and I'm such a devoted and good employee and it's hard to find someone else with my qualifications) and then if she can find out and I can stop doing whatever it is that bothers my boss, and my boss agrees, I can stay.
I don't have much hope, though. I don't think my boss will back down on firing me at this stage. He really hates me, God knows why. _________________ "It is the wounded oyster that mends its shell with pearl" - Ralph Waldo Emerson |

| depends on where you are. In my area, it's a done deal. Keep in touch with HR, but brush up the resume`, and look for alternative jobs.... |

I don't know the circumstances, of course, but from what you've related this seems discriminatory. In the US there is a law where a new hire can actually be dismissed for whatever reason - undisclosed (ie: the boss just doesn't like you). However, employer cannot use this if it's discriminatory, as in based upon your AS!!!! Make this known. You've a good and devoted employee and courteous - that's what counts. Then, if your boss is yucky your work situation could become miserable for you. We all know an employer who is discriminatory can be TORTUROUS. Greentea, you shouldn't have to do this - you don't deserve it. Can you be re-assigned? I don't know what you do professionally but you've mistreated.
I think the KEY is education - be certain your employer & co-workers know your condition and the ramifications. Let them learn in a way that is enlightening and respectful. I am very shy about divulging 'autism' but I know I must or else there will be misinterpretation.
I had a former supervisor from Hades....and she positively tortured me. It was excruciating. I hate to say this, but the bully always wins. Find someone else - not your current boss. You can't 'fix' another's hate, this will exhaust you and is futile.
I'm sorry Greentea - you truly don't deserve this. I do know how much this hurts and the despair. Especially that you LOVE your job and do well. I still gush pain caused from insane/sick supervisor who killed part of me from teasing, taunting, etc. It hurts!
Just for ex: I wanted to do a lab procedure - needed to be done and I know how: Flash Points. My supervisor-from-heck knew of my enhanced sensory modality but was stupid/clueless. She said, about my request/offer to perform procedure: "No. You'll become catatonic."
SICK. She called me a "puppy dog." Just gets worse from there. My co-workers where fine - she was positively demonic. With a raging bias and preconconceived erroneous notions about autism that were INSANE!!!!
This is why employer must have just some cursory information about autism/AS - never assume they know! They don't. _________________ same nightmare, different nap

| also bear in mind companies have an HR department not to assist employees but to prevent the company from being sued by the employees. |

Yes, unfair is a good way to describe it. I've lost all will to work there. I couldn't bring myself to go to work today and called in sick.
My colleagues have told me that they think it's unfair too. _________________ "It is the wounded oyster that mends its shell with pearl" - Ralph Waldo Emerson |

I've been in work situations with those kinds of people quite a few times. Never found anything I could do to make them change. Usually they're proud of the way they are.
The critical thing is that not everybody's like that. There are supervisors who are more concerned about getting the work done right than they are about their own egos and playing petty games.
I don't know about the structure of the organization you've been working for. If HR and some of your co-workers think you're okay, would it be possible for you to be transferred to a different section within the company, so you'd be supervised by somebody else?
I've had situations improved by lateral moves like that.
One way or another, I hope you get into a better situation. _________________ I can't take up my rifle

| If nothing work and you have to quit, don't forget to do something very funny to your ex-boss then you will have a reason to laugh about it later. I once gave a pig teacup to my ex-boss and everyone in my dept still remember and laugh about it today (it has been five years ago). Donīt let another people make your life a sad place. I hope to help, 'cause I always get into problems about new bosses and I only regret such times that I couldn't do something to show what I've been feeling about the situation. |

Impossible situation. If you're not allowed to transfer, the misery will not dissipate......sorry. Just some advice, if that's ok: Although you're justifiably upset (!) try to not bash your supervisor and/or company/agency since when you look elsewhere for work you want your leaving to be less negative, if that makes sense! I'm so sorry Greentea. You don't deserve this mistreatment, which is likely discrimination too.
But....if you're ever asked to rate your experience, here you go!

You should look into the legal aspect of this subject. An employer cannot fire you without a valid reason if you are past your 30 day trial period. If you are a sound employee with good attendance..."not liking you" is not a valid reason. You will at least have good grounds for an unemployment claim. _________________ On with the show...This is it. |

You're right! Legal advice might be a good idea. Greentea lives in the Middle East - I have no idea. In Alaska there is a legal clause for employers where they CAN fire employee for 'undisclosed reasons (ie: not liking you)!' I do know this for a fact. However, this 'undisclosed reason,' cannot be based upon DISCRIMINATION by ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, religious affilication. This is exempt. BUT - the big dilemma: How can legal defense every truly prove employer based their discretionary firing clause was NOT based upon discrimination? In Alaska this clause is called "At will hiring (and firing) clause." In good faith, "At will" is supposed to mean the supervisor/manager/boss may fire, without disclosing WHY! But not based upon discrimination, as I've explained. The rationale is that is employer 'feels' he/she, or other co-workers just cannot 'get along' with employee in question (ie: employee in question just may be a difficult person, extremely hard to work with, does not represent the agency/company as anticipated, etc), the employer may FIRE!
Normally, the employee in question is told beforehand, as is ethical. Then this employee can be given a chance to 'fix' the problem, with restitution. Such as being put on a probation-type period. Alaska has had this 'at will' policy and it is occasionally used - but not often. I think (not sure about this).....there may be a time limit on this 'at will' clause.
In any case, Greentea doesn't seem to have this problem. She loves her job and her co-workers like her back, etc. This indicates her boss has a problem, possibly (I'm not saying positively - I don't know the circumstances) discrimination. Those with AS/Autism are quite often discriminated against. 'At will' clause seems scary, but I suppose there is legitimate reason this exists: Gives an employer an easy 'out' if there should be a 'difficult' employee but there is no specific cause for dismissal. Kind of iffy though! _________________ same nightmare, different nap
