Anyone here like The Cure? No, I'm not talking about a "cure" for Asperger's, but The Cure?

What an freaky band not to mention a talented one at that. I just discovered them a year ago and didn't know they played as long as they did.

I'm not real big on synthesized music espeacially from the 80's, but they really seem to have made it work just as the Eurythemics. Very good band.

I am very much into the gothic scene, but not so much into The Cure. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate some of their work though, mainly the old trilogy 17 Seconds-Faith-Pornography was very good, Disintegration and even Wish as well. But they've gone downhill a lot since the nineties started IMO.

Charlotte Sometimes is by far their best song. Also, the song has a huge autistic feeling (listen to the song and the lyrics... even though it was not really about autism, the lines "Sometimes I am dreaming while all the other people dance" and "Charlotte sometimes dreams a wall around herself" have a sort of autistic feeling. The song was based upon a novel though that had nothing to do with AS)

Other songs of them that I love a lot: Lovesong, Just Like Heaven, The Hanging Garden, A Letter To Elise, Killing an Arab (no, not a racist song!), Lovecats, Never Enough, Fascination Street, Why Can't I Be You... (the last one is a guilty pleasure, yes)

However, the more poppy sound of The Cure is a bit of a turn-off. Not that it all has to be dark and gloomy, I can appreciate music totally different from goth. It's just that The Cure's poppy music is not that good IMO. They are good in their gothic stuff but I am not a fan of their other music, which basically to me shows they are quite a limited band. A song like Close To Me for example (to name one everyone should know) is quite dull in my opinion.

Decent band, but I am not much of a fan really. I adore Siouxsie & The Banshees though, the band where Robert Smith started off. But Siouxsie has a lot more talent IMO and a larger catalogue of good songs.

I find them hit and miss. Robert Smith isn't the most varied vocalist. However they have some amazing songs.

People often tell me I look like Robert Smith. I used to walk into Dublin pubs with people yelling stuff like "Hi Robert Smith!". I don't even agree I look like him, unless eyeliner and fuzzy hair are enough to draw a comparison. Well, guess better be compared to him than the more frequent gay insinuations.

They were here in Berlin not so long ago doing a full performance of the Pornography and Faith albums. Sounded good, but somehow I couldn't be bothered to go. Tickets were quite expensive and to listen to The Cure for over 2 hours is just a bit too much for me.

Indeed I do enjoy The Cure. They're good at setting subtle little combinations of vibes into me, depending on what I'm in the mood for.

I remembered when I purchased their Disintegration CD back in the early 90's. I would sit and listen to it for hours. Wonderful piece of creation.

Very Happy

Disintegration was good but there it finished for me. Ever since that album it went downhill. That is the problem with many bands: they make one or two masterpieces but then find it impossible to make an impact with the next albums because they already reached their peak. But the problem is The Cure are IMO not diverse enough, so they just stick to the same stuff too often, resulting in less good attempts to make another album like Pornography or Disintegration.

But agree, Disintegration is a fantastic record. Most of their eighties records are very good. The Cure to me are much like U2: brilliant in the eighties, downhill and mediocre since the nineties.

I was too much into industrial/death metal so I never bothered to listen to them, so even if I was surrounded by people who was exchanging records and talking about them, I wasn't into it. I found them late, at my gf's house! I love Wish/Disintegration, nice stuff.
Depressing BTW Laughing

I've never been a big fan but I do like some things by them. ^_^ I like their songs that are actually depressing and sad and dark.

The thing is, their old stuff has that old 80's sound I hate...and their new stuff isn't as good song-wise. XD So I'm awfully picky. But I LOVE "Want," "Lost," and "Lullaby."
