To quote Yahtzee Croshaw
''more people would play Mother 3 rather than Mario Kart eleventy-billion three.''

Earthbound was the very definition of awesome. The main villain was a clear parody of Max Headroom who was threatening to take over the US.

Aliens, rock bands, zombies, you just don't see this stuff in JRPGs.

Earthbound was decent but I really didn't care much for much of the music or the sounds...I actually played with the volume muted at many times.

really? the music was a huge draw for me...it's just so different and a lot more in depth than just a pop tune. kinda like frank zappa of video game music.

I loved the music, even though it was basically the same as Earthbound 0.

I even like the cheesy soundtrack album (to Mother) ;D

It's all properly 80s soft rock recorded with vocals and everything. The girl who sings most of the songs is kind of annoying (has a really operatic voice and pronounces words weird), but I still dig most of the album.

Eagarly awaiting Mother 3, I might have to rebeat Earthbound while I wait. I check the translation website almost every day Embarassed

I'm playing Earthbound right now. I'm in Fourside, and so far, it's great. It's very different from the typical JRPG. I wish they would make another one and actually bring it to Europe.

have you gotten to moonside yet?

it's one of my favorite pieces of music in the soundtrack...not to mention one of the more fun puzzles in the game.

i love Earthbound. Japanese media is mostly obsessed with fantasy/sci-fi epics and lots of existentialism, so i really appreciate something that has a simple but charming sense of wit and whimsy (kind of like Azumanga Daioh).

besides, what other game do you get to fight a sentient pile of barf, take out a whole army of zombies with fly paper, and meet an evil cult obsessed with the color blue?

i've been dying for them to release it on Virtual Console. apparently it's been rated by the ESRB but no news of a release date yet. they haven't even updated the SNES list since March. bastards!

anybody else think they should just release the whole Mother trilogy on Virtual Console? how awesome would that be? Nintendo, get an English translation together and do it!

I always heard about the wonder of Earthbound so I decided to invest in a copy a couple of months ago. I have to say that it really payed of. I can't say that it's perfect since it had many parts which i found annoying but overall it was just such a unique experience that I can't help but love it in it's entirety.

Duke, why didn't you care for the music? Just didn't sit with you?

Moonside was... weird. And creepy. But it was fun.

And the battle with Gigyas had one of the creepiest last boss monolouges in the history of video games.

As much as I love earthbound, Mother 3 is even better! Even the music is better.

Does anyone notice an uncanny similarity between Pokey and Cartman?
