I'm sure we all like seeing THOUSANDS of warship beating/blasting the sh** out of each other in space, orbiting planets, etc. So let's provide some examples.

The shows I've seen that fit that
Heroic Age
Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
Star Wars Episode III and VI

Some shows I heard about:
Crest/Banner of the Stars
Starship Operators
Space Battleship Yamato
Robotech/Macross Saga (however you call it).
Mobile Suit Gundam??. (some of the space battles later on)

correct, but some of them (G Gundam) have relatively wimpy space battles (I don't remember seeing fleets engage in G Gundam or that gay kids show with Chibi Zakus and Goufs etc.)

EDIT: technically Gundam Wing doesn't have the fleets shooting at each other but MS duels in space Razz

Battlestar Galactica is a great sci fi show.
Last Exile is an anime that has really well done sky battles. Technically they're not in space though.

There were a few good engagements during the Dominion War in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. My particular favorite would be the Second Battle of Bajor, when Starfleet retook DS9 from the combined Cardassian-Jem'Hadar forces...

Space fleet battles... in anime that I know of.

Gundam: Universal century stuff mainly, but still Gundam for the most part is MS battles.

Crest/Banner of the Stars: Yes, space fleet battles... but not the point and shoot kind. Space battles in this show play out rather super-realistically and drawn-out. In other words, not very exciting stuff.

Gunbuster: Yep, it's got classic space fleet battles and then some...

Harlock Saga: Probably has space warship battles... but I haven't really seen the show.

Martian Successor Nadesico: has a few warship battles...

There's probably some other animes with fleet battles... but the thing is, space warship battles are often never a focus in anime and get relegated to minor background events while mecha battles take the focus.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Starship Operators has them.

EDIT: And thankyou, everyone else

the wiki article seems to remind me of Irresponsible Captain Tylor somewhat
