It sounds a little like semelina and a little like melanoma... neither of which I'd care to name my child after Very Happy But that's just me.

That's the name of the brunette chick on Total Recall. I don't really have much respect for people who name their kids after movie characters. Anakin is one of the worst things you can do to a child.

*cough* ...Apart from what Nicholas Cage did to his child. Kal-El, anybody?

Melina...tbh, i'm not fond. It's like somebody got confused writing Melanie. And it makes me think of Molina, as in Alfred Molina. Not the most feminine of names.

She was from Argentina

People called her Melina from Argentina (it rhymes!)

Me neither, but...

Josef Fritzl might disagree.

I hate the name Melina. There is a medical word 'melena' which means bloody poop. I always think of that when I hear a name like Melina.

Yeah, I heard a kid at a store recently being called Anakin. *gag*

Oh I had a thread on stupid names a while ago hehehehe! Melina is an ok name, I went to school with a Malina and she was very nice.

I met a 5 year old Anakin too! Kal-El is pretty harsh, I agree on that. I think Geri Halliwell's Bluebell Madonna is pretty sick...actually there's a website about stupid celebrity baby names, one dude called his kid Pilot Inspektor. There's also a great site called That Baby Has A Bad Bad Name, it had me laughing.

So? I was thinking of naming my little girl Celexa (Celexa Larsie something else and then the surname), before I found out it was a boy. Like, my little antidepressant.

I was also considering for girls: Charity Goody Grace (Charity), Something with 3 syllables Tola Natache (Tola), Corky Aniela Latrice (Ana), and others too. Me and Jack both liked Phaedra Charity Racine. Smile

I agree - it sounds like a medical term. When I was a kid, the singers Tony Orlando and Dawn had a song called 'Candida,' which (at the time) I thought was a beautiful name for a girl. I wanted to name my daughter that very thing when I one day had one - until years later when I realized that 'Candida' was the medical term for Oral Thrush (Candida Albicans) or a vaginal yeast infection (Candidiasis). Now, whenever I hear that old Tony Orlando song, I wonder why he's singing about a girl with a yeast infection...

Additional note - made up names often sound funny later in life, when something else gets that name. For example, I actually knew an African American girl in high school named LaVitra Cooper. Now there's a medicine out there called 'Levitra' which is prescribed for erectile dysfunction. I imagine that people give her a 'hard time' about her name these days. Rolling Eyes

Oh well, Nicholas Cage changed HIS name!
