I am obsessed with trying to figure this out.

I defenatly have ectomorph characteristics, as my bone structure is small and from my armpits down to my waist is reletively the same width across. I also have difficulty putting on muscle mass, but I am slowly gaining. I can develop tone much quicker, but it still just seems slower than most people.
Heres the problem though... Ectomorphs should be good at endurance, but im pretty bad actually. Even if I trained, I feel like it could take a long time to reach the level of a marathon runner. Right now, I get winded running 3/4 speed 60 yards, but my muscles arent tired at all. I guess lungs dont have anything to do with this, just muscles right? My metabolism is fast (as an ectomorph's should be), but im noticing myself ever so slowly gain fat weight. My body type is hard to describe without a picture. Ill supply one if it will help.

I dont know if im a meso-ectomorph, endo-ectomorph, or ecto-mesomorph. I lack the wide bone structre and short legs of an endomorph, so im defenatly not dominantly that. I lack the super thin rectangle shape of an ectomorph, and the triangle-like shape of a mesomorph. This is driving me nuts... One of my little obessions, I guess. Any help would be great.

By the way, not to rudely criticise, but the pictures you used werent really the best. They all looked pretty much the same, except for the two guys in the red sleeveless shirt. Im trying to catagorize and define these body types and add pictures, but its hard for me to find any too.

Ugh all the examples are body builders. What's the point? They have trained on their way to... what?... becoming professional piano movers? The beefcake look may seem impressive, but they aren't necessarily fit, or even healthy.

I look like this:

I don't know what that body type would be.

Its hard to say, due to your position. Im guessing mainly ectomorph, but again, its really hard to see.

I agree about the body builder thing. They train just to look huge and ripped. Having good aerobic ability has a lot to do with fitness, and most body builders dont have much. I doubt they could even run or punch fast with all that bulk. And they defenatly arent the healthiest people. Too much protein can have a negative effect on you, and excessive meat can damage your immune system and increase aging (although I do realize there are vegetarian/vegan body builders). Plus, they starve and dehydrate themselves before a competition to make their muscles more defined. Im not bashing though, just stating observations.

Also, trying to define the somatype of a body builder is very hard to do with the way their muscles are. Many people who are misinformed about somatypes think that all fat people are endomorph, all muscular people are mesomorphs, and all skinny people are ectomorphs. Not true at all and it annoys me when people say that. To find out the somatype of someone as accurately as possible, they should have minimal body fat and not have body builder sized muscles. That way its a good neutral/medium. Any somatype can be fat or muscular and the closer a person is to either of those two extremes the harder it is to determine their exact somatype.

I don't know, I'm 5"7' and I weigh around 135-140lbs, I have little body fat, and I have pretty good strength. I have veiny forearms, upper arms, have veins in my shoulders bulging out when I'm working out and veiny calf muscles, I have an eight pack which still is visible even under the very small layer of belly fat. I put on muscle and strength quickly. Maybe Meso-Ectomorph or Ecto-Mesomorph?

Mesomorph or Meso-ectomorph. I am just under 5'0" (151cm), and I weigh 110lbs (50kg). Right now I am about 18% body fat. I am petite, but I don't have a very tiny build. I wouldn't consider myself small boned, but rather medium boned, and just short. I do have a small waist and ribcage, and I have an hourglass figure (35"-23"-34"). My thighs and upper arms are muscular, even when I'm not working out, and my shoulders aren't very narrow, but they aren't broad either....Although I am petite I don't wear petite sizes in clothes because my legs and arms are pretty long.

I have a six pack that is visible except for the area just under my belly button where I have a little bit more fat. I build muscle pretty quickly and I have a lot of muscle strength for a petite woman. I also have pretty decent endurance. I can run 10K (6.2 miles) in about 50 minutes (avg. 8 min/mile).

If I do not exercise and I don't pay attention to what I eat I can easily gain weight. I don't have the fastest metabolism.

Mesomorph. I'm short-ish and have a slightly larger than average frame (I'm 5'8", and my natural weight is about 150 pounds.) Although right now I'm about 160, as I'm a little out of shape. I can both gain and lose weight very easily, and build muscle fairly quickly. My endurance is probably average or slightly below.

im guessing i would be Meso-endomorph its hard to tell tho because i have a big bone structure , big hips and during winter i gain a few pounds due to doing absolutely no cardio and going less to the gym (i eat all day , all year arround) but never get too fat (always 165-175 pounds 5'11)

I think I'm an ecto-mesomorph or an ectomorph. My hips look wider, but they're normal, they only appear this way because my shoulders are so so so narrow.

When I gain weight, it's very evenly all over my body, so I never notice it. :p When I lose it, I get very skinny very fast. Putting on muscle is hard for me; even though I'm very thin, I'm "soft."

i learned about ecto-meso-endo- morphs when i was a child at a psychiatric school. i found a book in my doctors library that i took to read.

it said that there was a scale of 1-7 for each of the somatotypes.
it said that every person contains all 3 somatotypes, and each somatotype is given a value from 1 to 7 as ascribed to an individual.
the score was rated as ectomorphy(1-7) then mesomorphy (1-7) and then endomorphy (1-7)

so an inherently skinny person with no muscle or fat would be a 7,1,1. (7 ecto, 1 meso, 1 endo)

a huge muscle man with not an ounce of fat on him and with big fat bones would be a 1,7,1. (1 ecto, 7 meso, 1 endo)

a person who is obese and is all flab, but has thin bones and no muscle mass maybe a 1,1,7.

there was a psychological attribute ascribed to each of the 3 somatotypes in the book.

apparently....

ectomorphs: are nervous and edgy. they panic easily and they are prone to paranoia and suspicion. they are usually very guarded.

mesomorphs: are impulsive and rash. they are passionate and lose their tempers easily. they attempt to dominate and strive to control. they think about sex often.

endomorphs: are happy and jocular people. they are content with indulgence. they are the most humerous and relaxed of all the body types.

that is what the book said (over many pages) in a very condensed way.

my body type is about a 3-3-3 given that basis for my understanding which is almost certainly outdated.

I'm definately an ectomorph.

I'm 5'8" tall but only weigh 120lbs. I eat a lot, but never seem to gain any extra weight.

Despite the fact that I have gained weight recently (I'm not fat by any means, but I look relatively normal as opposed to scrawny), it's taken me a long time to gain it. I have a slight, light frame and do not gain weight easily and can eat what I like, so that makes me ectomorph.

Guess I'm the first one to own up to being an Endomorph (the kind of guy who gains 5 pounds looking at a doughnut)

Meso-ectomorph. Long spine, shortish legs, quite powerful for my size but almost no endurance.
