i was wondering if anyone had been diagnosed with ADD as an adult, and what has worked or is working for them.
i think i may have it and it has been suggested to me that i may have it.

i know this is an AS forum but i know a lot of people are also well versed in ADD as the diagnoses often seem to go together, and wondering if anyone can share their knowledge.

if i could figure stuff out i figure i'd probably be a better mom for my kids and once i figure myself out i can do a better job of helping them figure themselves out too.

thanks

Yep, I have. I tried a couple medications for it, just to see. I felt great at first, but I'm not a big fan of being medicated and they got on my nerves after a few days.
I take green tea pills (in the diet pill section), they work better for me than the prescription stuff did. And no jitters, no real side effects at all.

yeah i'm not real keen on the idea of bein medicated but i just have such a hard time focusing and am just forgetful sometimes. those aren't the only reasons i think i have it.
i did an online test and looked up the criteria and fit much of it. the test said i had moderate ADD likely.

hubby hasn't been dxed ADD, but certainly has MANY of the characteristics- i'd be surprised if he doesn't have it Laughing

at any rate, lists seem to help him. we've tried numerous organization items ( folders, sticky notes, calendars etc). all of these items have worked for a short period of time- i think they can be successful tools, if you use them. hubby has a tendency to just use what's closest to him to write down something- this means that i've thrown out important messages, because they were written on scraps of paper, wrappers etc....

yup sounds like me too notes whereever, although i try to write stuff on the magnetic notepads on the fridge or the calendar, but occasionally envelopes etc. that seem to go missing into the basket of papers.

i have a calendar but seem to have this anti routine thing not sure why. maybe because it seems like a huge task to organize it and stick with it, what if i want to do something different at that time what if something else comes up, and i knowe it can be changed and altered and flexible but somehow that thought gets stuck in my head.
my son would probably do better with more routine around the house, but how do i do that when mommy can't even stick to one???
i don't mean to be flaky or inconsistent but sometimes i just forget and get distracted.

They make me a little more social, more focused. Less agrivated by every little thing. More tolerant of other people. They jusy make me function a little better overall.
They do NOT give me energy, caffine just doesn't affect me that way except in extreme ammounts.

i am looking to test the waters i think and see but not really sure where to look, many of the sites i've found keep pushing me back to a few of hte same ones who are selling ntural remedies or suppliments.

Pretty cheap.
Here's an easy test: Do you seem "better" when you've had caffine? (coffee, cokes, ect?) If so, it would probably help. If not, then maybe not.

I personally hate coffee and tea, and drink very little cokes, ect.
If you ingest a lot of caffine daily anyway, this might not be the best idea for you.

good to know i will test the waters with that although green tea would likely be the healthiest alternative. i was reading about a ADD diet where you add instant coffee to protein powder.
i've never really noticed wether or not i do better with caffeine in my system.
i'll have to observe that.
i don't mind pepsi but can only really have one or 2 cans at most before i feel sick.
thanks for the advice.

zghost how may pills do you take a day?
do you just follow the directions on the bottle or do you have your own schedule?
did you get yourself on it or was it by a doctor?

trying to observe my concentration after caffeine today and when i found myself starting to zone out earlier today i got some caffeine, but then went out on a mission, which holds my attention anyways, so not really sure if it helped but had a rreally hard time once i got home 2-3 hours later.
snapping at the kids and so on. ther was jsut too much gooing on.
i wonder how i am supposed to teach my kiddos to handle things properly when i can't even get it together?
just a frustrating day.
i got a new computer becasue my old one jsut wasn't working properly and would cost more to fix than it's worth, and with it being summer i'm not working becasue my job is only during the school year. and since i now have car payments because my car broke last month and wasn't worth fixing either, i now have m,any payments to make with no real income coming in and child/sposal support that is short. the ex is trying just not a good job for him right now since i basically get the majority of his cheque i can't really complain but when i have no money coming in any cash i can get is good.

sorry this went offon a completely different direction but just needed to vent and stuff, and it popped into my head as i was doong this becasue of te caffeiine thing.

I usually only take one in the morning. I work in the mornings so that's when I need to be more social, ect. I think mine have 120mg of caffine, I'm not positive because I threw out the origional bottle.
If I'm doing something stressful, such as spending a lot of time with family, I'll take another around lunch or so. Or use another form of caffine, like an energy drink.

I Have no idea if this is in any way typical, but sugar has the opposite effect on me than it does on most of the world, so I drink diet/ sugar-free stuff only.

not a fan of the diet or sugar free stuff. i like my sugar.
i have been trying to get more caffeie in me lately but not sure if i've really noticed a difference ir not i guess i'm just not that observant. i usually have ither stuff going on so i just don't really know what holds my attention, or maybe i'm just not understanding it. i think somehow i am thinking that once i have caffeine i will be very focused and get everything on my to -do list done and remember everything, but i've got 2 kids who constantly interrupt my plans in one way or another so i just get distracted and that 's the problem. i get so easily distracted. i guess getting more than 5-6 ours of sleep per night might help too. because it seems to be worse lately since i started getting less sleep.

I have no idea how old you are but is it possible you are pre-menopausal? I am 47 and started a few years ago with the erratic periods, foggy thinking, forgetfulness, horrible sleep patterns - sometimes I sleep all night, sometimes I'm up every 2 hours. Just a thought.....

I, too, have a son that interrupts nearly every good thought or good book that I start. He is homeschooled so that's part of the deal, but it makes me feel constantly off center, unorganized and I forget a lot because of it.
