"Rain Man" will be a play this summer in London and probably the USA eventually.
There was an article in "Variety" magazine on July first about this. It is said to be "updated to reflect the current times" but I have to wonder if that means Raymond Babbitt won't go back to the institution.
I am trying to find out with no luck so far. Josh Hartnett (who played my alter ego in a movie) will play Charlie Babbitt, the brother of Raymond Babbitt. A British actor is playing Raymond. Other than Hartnett, none of the people from my movie are involved, nor are the original screenwriters of "Rain Man", Ron Bass and Barry Morrow.
I would like to see autism organizations and concerned peers contact the people doing this play and express a desire to see a different ending.

I hope it comes to Portland too.
But knowing how bad the hipster population is here,
the possibility is close to zero.
For some reason, there is a vibe of irony is this thread. _________________ This is your brain.

I don't know if it will come over here. I hope it does if the ending is better than the movie.
I have enough Frequent Flier miles to get Mary and me to a play on this continent.

I hope comes to play at The Strand/Capitol Theater here in York, PA.
An interesting aside: I first became aware of Asperger Syndrome in 1996 when "60 Minutes" aired the story
of you and Mary Meinel.

It it does, it will have a different cast. I have learned from somebody in positon to know that the play has the same ending as the movie. However, I think this can be used as a teachable moment: The publicity from the play can give us a chance to point out that the Raymond Babbitts of our world can live in our communities with proper support.
