Clarity.
Vitality.
Sensuality.
Creativity.
Perception.
Individuallity.
Independence.

There are many possitive elements to having the state of mind we have. Share them, in detail if you can. We need more of this. Asperger's has dealings with depression, awkwardness, social ineptitude, and many more that I am quite aware of, but we need to balance the scale guys.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT -JR!!! Very Happy Very Happy

ASPIES DO HAVE GOOD QUALITIES!! Very Happy Very Happy

It doesn't MATTER if we have Asperger's, we can live the lives we want with our abilities!

Also, a lot of Aspies are nicer than a lot of NTs. Very Happy

That's a list of traits anyone can have.

For positives to be a part of the disorder, they must be wrapped up in the negatives (the negatives are something we all share to some extent or another to have the same disorder).

Repetitive behaviours that make it so hard to focus on things outside of such allows one to focus on that single point until all avenues are exhausted. Once they're exhausted, one goes over them again if they're still interested; once the interest is lost, the knowledge is still retained.

Social impairment that makes forming and keeping relationships with others so hard compared to normal people allows one to forego social niceties, and the social heirachy in the shadow of the [factual] truth.

There's balance here, it's just that most people tend to fixate on the negative.

Exactly. Reason I created this thread.

And, in truth, I've said it before- I take the negatives, by CHOICE, because they are part and parcel to my possitive qualities. Having ultra focus is great, but it may require a bit of detachment from the world to get to that level.

BTW, you are one wordy mofo! I didn't understand your post at first, until just now, after I reread and basically regurgitated what you wrote! [/edit]

And thank you so much mightyzebra, you're enthusiasm gives me a smile! Very Happy

I am a bit non social and do not jump into the middle of a event, this leads me to hang around the outskirts of the conversation and alows me to get a beter view of what is going on. I can get the whole picture not that of only one speaker.

^I've been broken of this unfortunately. Many people with interest in seeing me do well have unintentionally stolen away some of my best years to "socialize" and learn how to be "normal." You have the advantage of detached focus in that regard, but I too have an advantage of my own. I just don't know quite how to use it yet, but have time to learn.

Wait have you ever had lessons where people try to help you be normal, I had this and it felt like by doing this I was actualy disadvantaging myself. It was getting rid of things I liked.

Nope, tho the same effect happened. I used to sit on the stairs of the motel I was living in for hours. Reading Dean Koontz and spitting sunflower seeds in a cup. Unfortunately a pretty young lady decided to antagonize me, and well I got over fearing people. Almost. I had a "surface" ability to "mingle" if you will, but still no deep connection. I think it's ironic that finding out about AS, taking the test, and finding out that I am very likely aspie has made me...feel less like an aspie. Alas, there are trade offs. I guess if my mind's real good at wheelin' and dealin' I might end up having the best of both worlds... Who knows...

Yeah, but as the bad stuff gets worse, the good stuff often gets better. But YEAH, apparently anyone could have gotten anything.

I think the upside is that you know you don't need a house or a car or a washing machine or rich friends to exist or be happy.

Loyalty.

Right now, I have no close friends, but in the past I have been intensely loyal to those few friends I had.

Ability to maintain focus.

I feel this is a positive trait too!

You're right about the rich friends. Screw them. But if I didn't have a house and a washing machine, then I'd exist on the street wearing all dirty clothes. That's not AS, or doesn't have to be. I do love the fact that I can focus on one thing for hours at a time. It may sometimes cause me to spend way too much time on here though.
