Autism Speaks forum is to close at the end of the month. The forum, which has become a battle-ground for pro and anti-cure groups has become unmanageble, with repeated flame-wars, and numerous postings advertising supposed new treatments and cures. Most recently a formal complaint was made to the University of Kentucky about the promotion on the forum of a new and untested chelation "food suppliment", created by their researchers as an industrial decontaminent.

oh, thanks Harry for the update re. Autism Speaks.
If there are problems with the forum, they are acting responsibly by closing it.
I tend to think that forum has fair and active moderation, well, from what I have seen anyway.
Also Autism speaks forum, is a forum connected to a larger organisation. I imagine they have to take a lot care in regard to what treatment strategies are promoted on their website. |

I think they underestimated the level of moderation required. When there's a mod on duty, things are fine; but as far as I can tell, they only have one, for an hour or so a day.

They AREN'T acting responsibly. The responsible thing to do would be to shut EVERYTHING down! What they are doing is CENSORSHIP! They are shuting down the FORUM, because it doesn't represent their biased view. It is 100% SELF SERVING! |

YAY! I live in Kentucky and made a few formal complaints to UK! I am glad the Autism Speaks forum is shutting down, that will mean that people will have to write to the organization directly!

Tell all the anti-cure people they can come to WP. The others can come too if they don't attack anti-cure members of WP but I wouldn't put that past em. |
