It's a purely subjective thing because the people who say that about us can't see out of their own world enough to understand us from our points of view.... and since these people are like everyone else, they fail to understand the irony of what they say.

People tell me I am in my own world because many times they have to snap me out of it and back into the conversation. I tend to sort of 'space out' in my own thoughts and do not really see or hear what is going on around me.

I am always in my head, thinking about anything and everything. I see numbers like no one I know does. I see them in different shapes and colors and textures, and to me it is as if I feel the numbers. I know what it is, it is synesthesia, but I am always spacing out into my own "world" of sorts of numbers, patterns, and theories. I like to think about things that are supposedly impossible. When I am thinking, there is no way of actually getting me out of that state, it is like I am in a trance of some sort. When I am in my 'world' I do not see you, I do not hear you, I do not even sense you. You are not there, you were never there, because you are not in my brilliant world that was made for me, and me alone. Sometimes I am so much into the 'world' that I have to be slapped to get out of it.

I go there whenever I am stressed or sad or down or even just bored. I go there when there is no where else to go to calm me down. I go there because it is my utopia. It is my own piece of heaven that no one can take away from me. If I am ever in a time of need, I just slip into my own consciousness and never come out until I absolutely have too.

I'm not in my own world or anything of the sort. I just happen to be thinking about something. And thinking is seen as something so strange in society.

Some people are concerned with what is going on in their external world. However, there are people who are more concerned with the thoughts, ideas, and images going through thier own minds. Due to this, people who are more interested in thier internal world can sometimes look "lost in thier own world.'

This is something my Mom occasionally brings up when she's mad at me. Too bad I consider it a good thing. Smile

How about "Im in my head right now" or "sorry, Ive gone to my happy place". Ive been accused of being in my own world or daydreaming my whole life.

Doesn't everyone see things only from their own perspective?

Anyway, you could say, "I was daydreaming" or "I was thinking". That is something that anyone can relate to, and is basically what is happening.

I wish I could express myself half as well as you did. Numbers are very real to me too. Several years back I played around with some Egyptian Tarot cards. Some of the meanings stuck with me. For instance 19 is my favorite number and it means happiness. I often add up the numbers on license plates. And I don't remember faces or names but I always remember birthdays.

I used to get criticised for being off in my own world. This usually meant that I had become so disengaged from the people around me that they have to snap me out of it by calling my name repeatedly or tapping me on the shoulder.

It used to really bother the teachers when they'd finally get my attention, and I'd give the correct answer without them repeating the question. Then they'd send notes home saying "Daydreaming", "Stares out the window", or "Does not pay attention in class", even though I got good grades.

The problem came from the facts that I was usually several pages ahead of the rest of the class, that the school district refused to advance anyone past their age group, and that the only "special" classes were for children who could barely dress themselves without help.

I was academically underchallenged.

I was so distracted by out-the-window going-ons my fifth grade teacher wouldn't let me sit by the windows. I sat on the opposite side of the room beside a brick wall.
