|
|
I started watching a canadian show called regenesis (available free on hulu.com). In the very first episode, the character Bob starts chatting nonstop about something obscure to his co-worker (they are all briliant scientists who work in a bio-lab), then explains "people with asperger's can't help it".
Later episodes showcase his brilliance, mention his high IQ, and show him being resistent to change, socially awkward, etc.
I like the character Bob because he is a 3-dimentional character on the show, not just a token autistic. The fact that he is a scientist with a very high IQ is a bit stereotypical, but then again the other characters are also highly intelligent scientists. In the 10 episodes I've watched, they have mentioned asperger's maybe two or three times. In other words, it is no secret, but the show doesn't focus on it in an after-school special kind of way.
Has any one else seen this show? What do you think of the portrayal of an aspie?
P.S. the show is pretty good. It has ellen page from Juno, and some interesting plotlines about crazy viruses and cloning. _________________ www.artistkatiemiller.com

I've come across this hulu site several times lately on the internet. It is extremely annoying in that it won't let you watch unless you are in the US, forcing you to use a proxy or get the show you want over p2p.
Very irritating. |

I LOVE this show. I watched it out of curiosity a couple years ago and at first it seemed like a variation of "House M.D." About 5 episodes in, I was completely hooked and it's shot up to my 2nd favourite sci-fi show of all time, right below Farscape.
Bob is an amazing character, as are the entire cast, and I love that they feature his AS realistically without overemphasizing it or using it as a cheap plot device.
It actually does become a legitimate plot point in later seasons, and is handled brilliantly.
The entire show is superb in many, many ways and I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in biology/life sciences, because the characters are truly human, the science is solid, and the plot intriguing.
Oh, awesome theme song too. |

| That whiny little bugger who kept insisting he was a clone? Who was that? |

HERE BE SPOILERS:
He really was a clone. He was created to be a source of replacement organs for his sick brother (the original) but the brother died and he (Mick) suffered the same ailments, as well as complications from being a clone and the process not being perfected.
It's a plot point that sees the (unfortunate) departure of Ellen Page from the show. |
