It's supposed to be some sort of AS characteristic to not always maintain proper conduct at the table, at parties, etc.
Anybody got issues with this stuff?

I'm actually also want some advice- I know this is kind of gross, but I have problems with keeping food in my mouth when I start laughing. Embarassed

I have the same issue. I've taught myself to cover my mouth when laughing so I dont end up with food all over people.

I have the laughing problem too I think its a human thing not a autistic thing.

Anyways if I am not given a spoon I can't beans, pea etc. without picking the plate up and raking them into my mouth, I just cant' stand chasing them around the plate. By the way why do NTs eat beans and peas with a fork?? I mean wasn't the spoon made to do just that??

Except for having horrible sensory issues with metal utensils (I carry a pair of wooden chopsticks around with me everwhere), not really. I hate using metal utensils so much that I only use them the mandatory three or four times a year when my family goes to visit my grandmother.

At parties, I tend to be really quiet and choose to just watch everything. Other than having a less-than-pleasant disposition (which is perfectly natural!), my manners are not bad. Except for when the camera comes out. Evil or Very Mad

I seem to go all right, I think.

Only problem I have is my fairly large food intake, haha.

I wouldn't say I have the best table maners although I do try my hardest. I have been told that I eat like Homer Simpson, also I almost always spill food all over the table and down my top.

Well I always spill food on myself, also I can't use fork and knife the way most people do. For me it makes sense to use the fork in the right hand as I use it the most and is the more tool hand, whilest I use the knife in the left hand as it is the one I use to aid the other hand, and the knife is just used for cutting or pushing things towards the fork.

OP, the obvious answer to your query is that you should chew and swallow before opening your mouth to laugh, talk, etc. But what if you find yourself about to sneeze with a mouthful of food or drink? Oh, this has happened to me. If you're lucky, you'll be able to get it down before the sneeze-reflex forces you to open your mouth. If you're unlucky, you'll sandblast the table with half-chewed food or maybe even choke.

Have fun! Very Happy

I'm fairly okay when it comes to actually eating food, I just don't understand many of the other manners I'm meant to remember. Like, once during my hat-wearing stage, I was told to take my hat off at the table. Me being me, I couldn't see for the life of me what problem my hat was causing, so I argued back. No one said it was just common manners. I've also never understood the 'sit and wait 'til everyone's finished before leaving' rule. To me, once you're finished, surely you're better off elsewhere than staring at the others, willing to finish. But that's just how I see it. There's many things I don't understand about being a polite human, so it seems XD
