If Bigfoot really does exist, it's most likely an undiscovered species of Great Ape. I can't make out the picture though.

I read the AP news story on this and they won't let anyone examine the body. They've also told three different stories about how they supposedly found the body. Their "proof" is an email from an entomologist -- that's a scientist who studies bugs.

It's got Hoax written all over it, a picture of a cheap gorilla suit in a wet freezer, ya that's Bigfoot, I am convinced!
If it was real, the authorities would have bagged it off to the nearest university for proper testing.

Update: "Bigfoot" fails DNA test

Quote:
One of the two samples of DNA said to prove the existence of the Bigfoot came from a human and the other was 96 percent from an opossum, according to Curt Nelson, a scientist at the University of Minnesota who performed the DNA analysis.

And here's a hint at the hoaxers' possible motivation:
Quote:
Also present were Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, the two who say they discovered the Bigfoot corpse while hiking in the woods of northern Georgia. They also are co-owners of a company that offers Bigfoot merchandise.

People see 'squatches all the time up here, but most people don't report it, either because they don't want to be made fun of, or they want to avoid the media circus.

Most of the time, you will not see large wild animals unless they want to be seen (or don't care). I've seen quite a few deer (but have never taken a photo of one, because it seems rude), and one bear (eating berries and oblivious to passers-by) but no cougars and no 'squatches. Other hikers up here have reported them, though. No photos, but why bother? Who'd believe?

As far as this specimen goes, how is anyone supposed to tell? And more importantly, why does an animal need to be dead and cut open to prove its existence? Rolling Eyes

Easy--don't keep it in a secret location. Instead, bring it to a zoology department in a university and have it analyzed under a lot of public scrutiny.

Yes but at least other secretive large animals - you mention deer, bears and cougars - have been fully documented and proven to exist. Sure, new species of animal are discovered all the time, but they are usually small creatures found in remote, previously unexplored areas. If I ever visit America and get mauled half to death by a squatch, then I'll eat my words, but until then, I'm in the skeptic camp.

You would think with all the camera phones, light-weight camcorders and technology that can take pictures of galaxies billions of light years away, someone somewhere would've caught a clear shot of a bigfoot.

That goes doubly for Lochness monsters, Yetis, chubacabras, Osama Bin Laden, ghosts and aliens.

Even the cryptozoologists were calling this junk.

Although for all I know they tend to be quite skeptical to try to maintain some kind of facade of credibility Laughing chin

It's a hoax, check cryptomundo for details.

Really, this is the same thing over and over, someone tells the 'media' that they have 'proof' of Bigfoot or Flying Saucers, or Dark Energy, and then they reveal...... nothing !!!

Old News.

A Monster Discovery? It Was Just a Costume

Looks like willem and spudnik hit it right on the nose... it was just a costume, and the 'discoverers' admit now that they lied.

Quote:
In the end, it seems Bigfoot was nothing more than a frozen Halloween costume.

Last Friday, two men, Matthew Whitton and Rick Dyer, announced they had found the remains of the elusive legend, Sasquatch, better known as Bigfoot.

The two men had teamed up with self-proclaimed Bigfoot hunter Tom Biscardi, creating a media bonanza replete with claims that they had a real half-human, half-ape body in their possession. They even said they would unveil DNA proof and photographs confirming the existence of the new species.

But all the brouhaha over the "discovery" of Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, was for nothing.

Biscardi, who himself has a history of dubious Bigfoot sightings, claims the story started to unravel over the weekend. And he apparently tried to shift responsibility to Whitton and Dyer claiming the pair "deceived him." But several Bigfoot academics say all three men appear to have been perpetrating a hoax.

Biscardi claims he dispatched another Bigfoot "expert," Steve Kulls executive director of Squatchdetective.com, to Georgia to investigate the body, supposedly being held in a freezer.

Kulls, wrote in a news release posted on Biscardi's Web site, searchingforbigfoot.com, that as the "remains" thawed, it became increasingly clear that the men had stuffed a frozen apelike costume into a freezer.

Kulls wrote that when Biscardi confronted Whitton and Dyer on Sunday, they admitted that all they had was a costume.

"At this time the victim of this series of deceptions, Searching for Bigfoot Inc., is seeking justice for themselves and for all the people who were deceived by this deception, " Kulls wrote in the release. "Due to this event peoples lives have been disrupted and many people, so wanting vindication about their prior experiences were hurt. Let us all try to be mindful of such."

~ahem~

As I was saying, always be sceptical whenever you hear about things like this.

I'm quite the Fortean, so I realize these things have their own reality, which doesn't overlap everyday reality...
