I need a FREE program that whould enable me to CUT a section out of a song ( wav file or mp3) and then JOIN the TWO remaining sections up to be ONE !!??

Is that possible ?

I use the XP program that lets you delete sections AFTER a point and BEFORE a certain point but I end up with TWO separate bits of music.

HELP !!

Check out Audacity. It should be able to do what you need.

As said earlier I second the use of Audacity as it is free not shareware & will do exactly what you want it to

Audacity is indeed exactly what you need. A graphical multichannel waveform editor with support for lots of lots of fileformats. Also, it's not only free from cost, but free as in freedom. It's real Free Software, and will forever do what it tell you to do, for free. And most importantly, it works on a bunch of different operating systems, and not just Microsoft Windows.

What if you wanted not to edit the file, but to convert the file format extension, say, from MPEG-4 to MP3? That would really help me get my music from Itunes onto my new MP3 player (its a Sansa c240, which is Windows based)

What kind of file are you trying to edit?

If I'm correct, you'll need to resample or change the bits. Check in the "mix" button, right next to the close button on every waveform you open (the close button is the "X" at the left)

You have to select a region of your file to use those options on.

Depends. If your files weren't bought as "iTunes Plus", they have DRM and cannot be converted easily. You will have to burn to CD and rip as an MP3.

You know, I didn't think of that. I have an old rewritable CD i could use (I have all of the songs on my MP3 player already)

EDIT: no good. It said the files could not be burned to CD because they were not MP3 file format. (The files are MPEG-4, like I said above, and this was a CD-RW that I had used for music previously)

I have a little program, you just drag and drop MP4 files and it converts to mp3, I'll look for it when I get home. PM if you're interested.
