Nahhh... mmm, he's yummy. Well done to him I say, quite an achievement!! Apparently he started swimming to burn off some energy as he's got ADHD - just as well!

How's everyone's teams going by the way?

The kiwis did so well yesterday, we were so proud... 2 golds, a silver and 2 bronzes (one to a man who lost 4kg in two days, staggered off his boat and was carried off vomiting - amazing!!)

Nah, I don't believe he's been juicing. He's one of the control test subjects for new age drug testing. He's tested daily.

Torres is one of those test subject as well. China does has the most golds doesn't mean they are the best because the USA has more overall medals than China. It will be awhile before Phelps' record can be beaten because they go through his training regiment to get those gold medals in the first place and a long time before it happens again.

It would be immediate. I noticed some other atheletes have been suspended already.

Because of his "High Profile" he is under constant scrutiny...
One other thing he is young enough for London 2012 to repeat this exploit of 8 golds......

I saw a profile where their showed how his body was the absolute perfect form for swimming. I think it's largely very unusual genetics. And he is known for training extra hard. There really isn't anything to indicate juicing. Ok, other than winning, of course, but that isn't enough when these other things are clear to experts in the sport.

One of those wins was pure instinct. When he went for an extra stroke and the guy who had been in the lead chose to glide. Not only glide, but let his head up. That was such a surprise win, because looking at the race I was sure the other guy won. It's stuff like that which keeps him winning. Weird, really. The other guy was faster in most ways we consider important, and yet Phelps touched first.

He's been tested after winning each gold medal, so if something were to come up, we would have heard about it. It would be a bigger scandal than underage Chinese gymnasts.

Lucky 8 for the Phelps phenomenon...Great! topic

Apparently he has the perfect human swimming body and big hands and feet due to genetics. My oldest daughter had the same body build, and she was a natural in the water, but did not purse her talent. Sad

Winning 8 golds in the same Olympiad still seems kinda dodgy to me. If he's juicing, it's something designed to pass IOC drug tests. Anyone think this guy might be too good to be true?

dirge and sorrow, whinge and moan. . . Remember Mark Spitz?

"Once every 10 to 15 years one sort of rises up like a phoenix who is born to do what they do," said former swimming champion Diana Nyad. "He's built and born for swimming."

But it's not just attitude - it is anatomy. His coaches spotted it when he was still a teenager: a body custom made for swimming glory, CBS News correspondent Barry Petersen reports.

As he was growing up, his torso extended beyond what's normal. While he's 6 feet 4 inches in height, he has the upper body of a man 6 feet 8 inches. That gives him extra upper-body strength. But Phelps also has the legs of a man who's only 5 feet 10 inches, which provides him with more efficient kicking.

His arms stretched out of proportion to his body: to 6 feet 7 inches. It means more arm muscles and bigger hands for pulling through the water.

And his feet grew to a huge size 14.

Swimmers use their ankles like fish use fins for propulsion. His ankles do it better.

"The ankle flexibility is what pushes water backwards so that you go forward," said swimming coach and former Olympic medalist Clay Evans. "It's that simple, and he has great ankle flexibility. Just incredible and big feet so it's a big flipper with the capability of moving in the right direction."

After each swim, his ear is pricked to measure lactic acid, which causes fatigue. For reasons no one knows, he produces less than most other athletes, so he recovers faster.

oh, yeah, and for the energy, he has ADHD.
