I thinks its possible he is on the spectrum.

He was diagnosed with ADHD

Many diagnosed with ADHD are actually on the spectrum whether actually having AS or even milder just being on the spectrum ( some doctors speculate wether add/hd should be considered on the spectrum.) I think its sort of like a an intersecting spectrum where many with add/hd are on the spectrum but not all.

but micheal phelps i think may be on it . I need to know more imformation him but just from this video of him you can tell he has some charecteristics

what is your opinion?

He might very well be.

I'm not trying for an argument or anything, but I gotta say something. To me, projecting something onto other people seems, a bit, eh, disrespectful. I'm not saying that's the intention here, it's just the way it seems to me. Thoroughly discussing a person turns me off anyway, so it might just be the way I am. Sorry for the words, just gotta say what's up.

I actually noticed that he seemed to have difficulty with eye contact, and had a far-away askance sort of look to him, during an interview. But who knows.

I guess I just don't see it. His eye contact seems fine to me. You're not supposed to make eye contact 100% of the time- that would actually be considered odd. He makes eye contact most of the time, and just looks away briefly a few times when he is thinking. That seems totally normal.

I heard Phelps has ADHD, but I looked carefully and I don't see any Aspie traits.

But how about Ireland Padraig Harrington, one of the worlds best golfers. Here is is talking about his golf obsession, he has outback of his house a flood lit golf course. He cant stop playing golf, even in the middle of the night, but his neighbours are understanding. Observe his lack of eye contact.

Gosh, I'd say he's a really strong candidate! (The golfer, not Phelps, I don't think he is at all...).

A couple of weeks ago there was a thread here where someone suggested that MLB pitched Zack Greinke could be on the spectrum. The fact that Greinke has anxiety, particularly social anxiety, is publicized. Someone else suggested that another pitcher, Mike Mussina--who might get into the Hall of Fame--seems awfully spectrum-ish. I follow the Yankees closely, Mussina in particular, and I agree that it's a possibility. Not sure about Phelps, though I'm glad he and his mom are promoting the gifts of AD/HD as well as the drawbacks.

The interview I saw was right after a swim-- he might have been tired and disoriented from it [the swim], making him look "off."

I tend to agree with you, especially only seeing someone on TV. You can't tell in a few, or even an hour, of footage what someone is really like. Alot of people's public and private personas aren't the same. My wife knows someone who attended the taping of a show from a famous TV personality alot of people think, from her show, is probably a wonderful person. After seeing the taping in person and seeing how this famous personality behaved when the cameras were off, she now has a totally different opinion.

In addition, the circumstances under which these athletes are being interviewed, i.e. shoving a microphone in their face while their gasping for breath after swimming, running, etc., as hard and fast as they can isn't in my opinion, the best time to talk to them, so they aren't at their best. I think they should at least let them catch their breath and cool down a little before interviewing them.

I think some people try to project the label on someone famous to make themselves feel better, a misguided approach in my opinion.

Phelps may have been diagnosed with ADHD as someone else implied, but so are many other young boys, many erroneously in my opinion. There are alot of people who really do have ADD and ADHD, but I personally believe it's widely misdiagnosed and inappropriately medicated.

Unless Phelps or a member of his family comes out and says he's on the spectrum, or if you are someone who knows him personally, you can't really say for sure if he is or not. It shouldn't make a difference anyway.

Phelps has done well and I congratulate him for winning those medals and breaking those records and if I ever meet him, I'll tell him that, but I don't feel the need to say he is like me.

Just my opinion.
