| sorry if ive spelt it wrong. To cut a long story short, my autistic/adhd son has had many habits over the years. Recently he has been snorting and coughing, so I took him to the doctors. Doctor said he is fine and what he is doing is knows as a tick (apologies if i have spelt it wrong) Is this common with autism as we are worried he may also have tourettes - he is obsessed with bombing, killing, smashing etc etc - all very painful when out in public, for us, him and our 2yr old who now copies him. Any help appreciated. |

How old is your son?
I don't know about coughing and snorting specifically, but the things that helped me with mine, were:
- Less sugar and caffeine. I dunno how old your son is, but presumably not drinking coffee - but if he drinks a lot of soda, try to cut down on that.
- Try and make sure he's as active as possible. I found my ticks were/are worst when I've spend a lot of time in front of the computer and then I have excess energy that burns itself off.
Any other advice I could give is kind of self-contained, just basically stopping your own body from doing it, physically. But again, this might not help with what you're referring to, though it's worth a shot, maybe. |

| Thank your for replying. He is only 6 bless him, he is computer game obsessed, totally - It's so hard getting him away from his computer, tantrums etc, but from your post I realise I have to make him have more time outside lettin off steam, many thanks. |

No problem.
Without being crazy, does he have a Wii? Because a lot of that console's games are very active because you have to move the controller about. Might kill two birds with one stone. |

Sorry to hear it. My AS friend does that weird stuff too. "Kissing wrist" and the "Waddle walk" it can get annoying but if you're taking him the doctor, you're doing way better than his parents who seem to think he is "normal". I suppose that comes from the fact that they as his parent are simliar to him, not to mention that his brother too isn't exactly (average). Anyway, I think it's something that will either become less freqent or may never go away. |

We did get one when they first came out and sold it! big regret. I have said to my husband that i think it would be good for him - will have to save our pennies now as think it will make a great Christmas present. Thanks for your help. |
