My favorites are: TMNT 4: Turtles in Time (and the orignal one for the arcade) and The Simpsons arcade game.

Here's a Beat-em-up game u should NEVER TRY OUT. It's called Bebe's Kids. If you've seen the Nostalgia Critic, you would know what I'm talking about.

Street Fighter from Capcom. The arcade and to a lesser extend the console game.

The first Castlevania game ever, for the old 8-bit NES, is more action and strategy than beat 'em up.

Any oldskool 2D sidescrolling fighting game like streets of rage and double dragon. I hate these new style fighting games with just one opponent in an arena. Bring back the big levels full of enemies I say!

Cause the mid '80s (late 70's by some counts) is practically yesterday. makes me long for the days of the days of Spacewar! again.

I love me some beat-em-ups =)

Final Fight (arcade or Sega CD), Golden Axe series, Streets of Rage series, those two D&D arcade games, Advance Guardian Heroes, Kunio-Kun series, The Punisher (arc), Combatribes (arc/SNES), TMNT series, etc...

Probably a bunch I'm missing...I think Capcom made 75% of all of the beat-em-ups themselves @_@

Oh yeah, and there was this game for PC called Ragnarok Battle Offline that my friends and I were playing for a while, it was pretty cool.

Turtles in Time was awesome, was just talking about it with a friend the other day, Double Dragon/Battletoads is another great SNES game with similar gameplay.

The Street Fighter series. I love the games in this series. I always play as Ken Masters. My other favorites would be Def Jam Fight For NY and Def Jam Icon. I love putting myself in the game, it's the closest thing to actually meeting celebs when you're busy punching them in the mouth LOL! :D

I also love Super Smash Bros Melee. The latest one out now makes me wish that I had a Wii.
