And how did you settle on the distro(s) that you use? _________________ davidred writes...

I switched to Linux because I was tired of all the BS of Microsoft. I have been using Linux for almost 2 years now, I currently run Ubuntu, but am still trying other distros _________________ "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. I switched to linux because I was tired of the constant crasshing of Winblows. I am currently using an edition of Slackware (Backtrack 3). Many, many interesting tools . Only used for legal practice in a laboratory environment/most everyday use, but I still use Winblows for school projects out of necessity (I don't know Open Office very well yet).
By the way, ask a mod to move this to Computers, Math, Science, and Technology. _________________ "A witty saying proves nothing." -Voltaire

I like Backtrack for many reasons
I run TinyXP as my secondary OS on my computer, much faster, crashes less often. _________________ "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God."

I switched to Linux partly because it sounded like fun and I was bored, and partly because it would expand my software options as compared to before (Mac user, so very little software available). I picked Ubuntu because it was pretty popular among Linux distros and, from what I'd heard, very user-friendly.
EDIT: After a little while using Ubuntu, I booted up in OS X again (I maintained a dual-boot system) and found myself annoyed with the OS X user interface. Ubuntu is just much nicer, even when I haven't bothered to configure all the little niceties. _________________ WAR IS PEACE

you know you can configure it to have eyeballs in the task bars. and they follow the mouse. nothing functional but kinda cute to have a pair of bloodshot eyes following your mouse. |

That is if you use GNOME, I like to run GNOME, KDE, Xfce, and BlackBox.
All you are doing with the eyes is you are adding a module to the bar, nothing special or complicated, just a simple little thing. _________________ "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God."

After reading a few websites like Slashdot, I learned a few facts:
- billg@microsoft.com is the Antichrist!
- Winblows crashes like crazy (even though it rarely does for me)
- Masochistically having to configure everything makes you 1337

no problem, Fuzzy. I was wondering if you were thinking the discussion might be a bit flamey and just put it in the argument pen in the first place

was the predictibility, and lack of attention from virus/malware writers that got am into linux,as was the better customising. _________________ [LFAutie]
