I was extremely disturbed to learn that they want to cure or prevent us out of existence. Mad

I'd like to put them on an island where everything is run by computers and there are no Aspies. How long do you think they'd survive? Wink

Pretty long actually.

Most innovators, philosophers, scientists, etc. are NOT aspy.

In fact, most aspies spend their lives sitting at home unemployed.

It would be far better for them to work at advocating for acceptance and help for us as we are than joining in with the already existing masses who think we're not good enough, only making things worse by hiding under the guise of trying to "help" us. More than anything, they're reinforcing the very stereotypes they should be trying to destroy, primarily by helping people with spectrum conditions overcome the obstacles and be the best they can, as themselves.

Are you MOST aspies?

Last I checked, the unemployment rate for aspies was pretty damn high.

I /hate/ Autism Speaks. It's people like them that perpetuate the stereotype that aspies and auties are all isolated, diseased, and can't function in the real world.

If that is true that you can surely provide evidence for your claim rather than attacking aspies who have and do support theirselves

Where did I attack self-supporting aspies? Do YOU have any evidence for that claim?

So much for aspies being more logical and rational, which is a load of BS.

BTW, the aspie employment rate is 12%: http://www.angelfire.com/amiga/aut/employment.html

That's an 88% unemployment rate!

Autism Speaks has done little to help us, and more to eradicate autism. I kinda see Autism Speaks as the people in the last X-men movie who wanted to cure the mutants except we are the mutants and they want to inject us with that "cure" so they can be comfortable. Autistic Speaks does not speak for us they speak for people who see autism as a disease like the black plague and I can tell you right now we are not the plague they are.

By the way I hated the last X-men movie BORING!!!!

am do not like autism speaks, but dont hate them either.

am think they want to help humans have an easier life, but also that its about the costs from those who need support- they want to lessen those parts, though they're not the only ones who do that-some of the support organisations am use thinks about the costs from autists-and one of them [ss/learning disability services] even makes this clear to service users every day by putting laminated posters up in all their residential homes to state how much of a burden are to the country.
autism speaks are not 'bad' to want to help those who do deal with difficulties and functioning every day,but they're going the wrong way about it.

am hate this thinking that autists are on this earth to cause everyone else misery and use up their money-as an excuse to back up researching for cures,it shouldn't be about cost,no one is able to choose what they are born as.

Autism speaks should follow the example of the UKs national autistic society and spend most of the money on supporting the autists that exist, allowing them to live better lives...instead of treating those who need support like diseases and burdens on their family/staff/country,and treating the most able autists like they dont exist.
spending most of their money on the support side would show they really are dedicated to autistics, and not just to things that might never exist.
am say this as a pro choicer [not against cure through choice/need].
