to take your mind off negative things that are bothering you? I'd welcome suggestions.

For me it's music. There was a thread a few days past on this, or maybe there was a question in a thread, and someone gave this answer. For me, it's so natural I didn't even think of it, but it's true.

Also, writing, drawing, creating, thinking, looking up at the sky (all day, somthing's going on, trust me).

exercise can keep your mind off things.
watch a good movie or expand your music interest by going to sites like jango.com or last.fm.
go outside and stare at the sky in awe of its beauty.
get lost in drawing something.
write your feelings down or a story.

Creating seems to be a great tool of expression and relief.. it makes you feel more important.. if you feel like there is no meaning in your life then creating something that someone else may enjoy seems to be a grand thing.. myself I write music, i sing and play guitar, and even record stuff.
Also i love stories, even if i only come up with ideas, and slowly they grow over time.. i have great ideas for novels that maybe one day will be fully realised..
also movies can be fun.. but sometimes i cant sit through them.

Is that the same as grinding your teeth? This is becoming a problem for me lately... I grind, and suck on them.

True about work too.

I do that also, the grinding, but its more of
an expresssion, in a fight you bite your teeth
together to keep the jaw from flapping around
and breaking - so i bite my teeth together and
try to focus in a way, a habbit

I read "The Warrior Within" which is a compilation of all the things Bruce Lee wrote over the years. He went to Washington State for Philosophy and he wrote some very poignant things. A lot of the important points are on his wikiquote page.wikiquote page. I've found being like water helps a lot.

I turn the music on very loud and do press-ups. It's also nice to take an interesting book and to read it in the park, or to go for a walk with my friends. I also play synthesizer and bad thoughts often turn into music, then I concentrate on writing the notes down and forget about everything Wink
