The National Autistic Society is holding a Creativity competition for adults with Autism and Aspergers syndrome aged 18 or over. The theme of the competition is:

Shocked MY LIFE WITH AUTISM OR ASPERGERS SYNDROME. Cool

(Good, isn’t it?) Anyone 18 and ‘spectrum’ can enter.

There are three categories:

1. Poetry or prose, up to a maximum of 300 words (Only typed or word-processed entries will be accepted)
2. 2d Art. This can include drawing, painting, collage, montage or digitally-produced art.
3. Photography.

There will be three prizes in each category. (Such as a lifetimes supply of Mills and Boone romances. Not. Prizes to be announced, but don’t worry – they will be things Auties would want.)

The maximum size of entries is A2 (420mm x 594mm).

The closing date for entries is Tuesday 30th September.

The entries will be judged by one Celebrity and one ‘on the spectrum’ person. There will be a separate panel for each category. The winning nine entries and a selection of commended works will be exhibited in a public space in February 2009.

• Eligibility – the competition is open to all adults with autism or Asperger syndrome aged 18 or over.

• Number of entries – only one piece of work per category is allowed. You must include a completed official entry form with your entry. This form may be photocopied.

• Subject – all entries should be based on the theme, ‘my life with autism or Asperger syndrome’.

• Format – entries must be two-dimensional and no larger than A2 (420mm x 594mm).

• Loss, damage and insurance – every care will be taken with the competition entries, but the National Autistic Society (Nas) cannot accept responsibility for any damage or loss. The Nas will not be insuring any entries. You can make your own insurance arrangements for loss in post or damage of any sort if you want to.

• Return of entries – we will not be able to return competition entries.

• Copyright and reproduction – all entries to the competition must be original and the artist’s/writer’s own work. The Nas reserves the right to reproduce any entries in materials published by the Nas.

If you have any questions about the creativity competition, please email thinkdifferently@nas.org.uk or call 020 7923 5799 (9am – 5pm). Shocked

Oooh, this sounds interesting. Is there any website information on it? I can't see any links on the NAS website.

I hope Mark Rimland, the autistic painter of "The Secret Night World of Cats," enters his work.

Not 18 yet. Not diagnosed yet. Sad

Have fun, people.

The winning entries will be shown in a gallery in London. I'll have to go see it! Smile

Lie. By the time they show it you'll be 18, so who cares. Enter the competition!

BTW, just saw your deviantart, you're very pretty, girl!

I suppose there's no harm in trying. I can just put the piece on my dA otherwise. Smile

And thank you very much. Surprised
