According to new research by British and American scientists, Neanderthals were every bit as technologically proficient as Homo Sapiens. Apparently, the latter took over the planet mainly because they were better at social networking...

Yeah, I've thought Neanderthals got a bad rap. From the article it sounds like Neanderthals were more proficient than "The team from the University of Exeter, Southern Methodist University, Texas State University, and the Think Computer Corporation" because it took them, count'em, 3 years do make simliar tools!  Personally, I think Neanderthals died out due to greater food intake requirements and more competition for those food resources which goes hand in hand with the "better social networking" thought.
So, when is someone going to start lobbying for Neanderthal reparations?
