| Still to this day I cannot make a left or right turn on reflex command. I always have to think about it. Usually I hold my index finger and thumb up and see which hand makes the L shape, and this is how I know it's left. Now, up and down I have no problem with, but left and right have always been a struggle. Does anyone else have this problem? Wonder if it could be due to AS? |

I have a scar on my right thumb and always have to stop and rub it with my index finger just to make sure I've got my right and left orientation correct. _________________ Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand. Homer J. Simpson |

Yep. Was many years behind other children in this regard, and still often have to think twice. Wristwatches are a crutch. So is being inside a car.
Oddity -- never any trouble with cardinal directions unless there's no horizon. Stupid, because a featureless horizon is no trouble, spin me 'round and round in the middle of Kansas and I'll still point out North fine, but I'll get lost in a city with tall buildings, or indoors. |

You bet I have a problem. So does my sister. You should see us giving directions to each other. |

Cardinal directions are rarely a problem for me either. If the sun is out I can accurately point North at any time of the day. If it is cloudy I can usually "feel" which way is north but with a few degrees of inaccuracy. _________________ Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand. Homer J. Simpson |

I am TERRIBLE at directions, always have been! But if I have a map to guide me, I am fine... I still have problems.. well not so much with left and right but north, south, east, and west. I can't tell you how many times I have had to change directions driving because I went the wrong way! _________________ I was told that I have PDD-NOS and ADHD- in other words, mild AS with a history of speech delay. | I had left and right mastered before I was in double digits with my age. I also had the 24 hour clock figured out too. Many people didn't have a clue about this one.... |

| I had trouble with right & left until I was about 9. I had to figure it out in relation to my schoolroom. I still have to mentally rotate things to match that relation sometimes. It's not automatic. I don't know the cardinal directions worth a darn, except in Albuquerque and that's only because there was a mountain in the East. |

| To tell right from left, I hold up the hand I write with, and I know that's my right side. But if someone says, for example, ''It's to the right of the door'', I never know- to my right as I'm looking at the door, or to its right as it's looking at me? (But you'll notice I never get its and it's mixed up!) What's on the right or left of a picture is also confusing. Maybe it's just as well that I never learned to drive. I crash into stuff enough just walking around the house, imagine the damage I could do with a car! |

| I have a lot of trouble telling right from left and viceversa. Then again, I'm left-handed. |

| I struggle with knowing left from right. When I'm calm and unrushed I can figure it out quite quickly using one of a number or means, but if someone puts me on the spot, often I go blank and cannot think how to work it out. |

I had a HUGE problem with left and right (I thought I was the only one that did!)
I have a long cut on my left palm that I look at, even to this day, just to make sure.
the concept of right and left always seemed pointless and relative anyway. I'm also colorblind, so when I give directions I never use colors either, and say, "I'll turn on to Main St." not. "take a left after the brown house!" _________________ Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate.
