Occasionally I can drink a beer or glas of wine, but in general as a child I always had a dislke for strong alcohol...is that Aspie too? - I got drunk at 7 when at my first communion (I was baptised a Catholic), I was given the last bits of beer out of their glasses, in no time I pissed in my pants, but oh the uncles had so much fun seeing a drunk 7 year old.
My brother 4 years older went to pubs at age 14 and I kept drinking fizzy drinks until I was 18. _________________ Have you ever met a normal person? And, did you like it?

I don't like alcohol per say. I like the places alcohol can be found and the events that take place when it's present. NTs are so much easier to deal with when they're intoxicated for one, so I enjoy parties and bars because it's so much easier to talk to people when they're having just as hard of time looking for words. I also like going to bars because I like to people watch and some of them have good music. And alcohol comes in many varieties, some of which I'm not as fond of as others. Mexican beers, tequila and margaritas I'm especially fond of. European dark beers not so much. _________________ "No matter how many instances of white swans we see, we must never assume that all swans are white." ~Sir Karl Popper

I enjoy a glass of wine or an alcoholic beverage that has a nice flavor, and if I'm not around any people I do enjoy the nice, relaxing buzz that I get from two drinks. But I don't like being drunk - I've had to fight too hard to get my mind in order and coherent to really want to piss it away by snorking down shot after shot. I especially do not want to be around either strangers in the same condition or dealing with a noisy, chaotic environment while under the influence. _________________ Novinson's Revolutionary Discovery: When comes the revolution, things will be different - not better, just different. |

I've learned to thrive in chaos. I've learned that chaos is in fact just an illusion created by your inability to perceive the order in which things truly are. I like to hear the tick of the clock at it's loudest, you get a much greater understanding of it there. _________________ "No matter how many instances of white swans we see, we must never assume that all swans are white." ~Sir Karl Popper

I had one beer on a camping trip. It tasted nasty, and would never do it again. _________________ When you need something, that's a responsibility, that only an adult...of my maturity...Bunnies!!!

| I like a drink rarely. Maybe one Champagne flute at new years or a hot whiskey once or twice through the year. |

I drink, not a lot, but I like it from time to time.
Most of the times it is for celebrating something in family circles or with friends. When around people from work I never drink.
I used to like drinking more, but I did not see the point of it, so I decided to cut back. |

I'm not sure if I like it or not because I've never tried it. I have a really strong family history of alcoholism and have seen someone slowly die of liver problems, so alcohol in general frightens the hell out of me. I also have a family history of people with strong AS traits. I've wondered if their tendancies towards repetative behaviors and difficulties with anxiety and expressing emotions played a role in their developing alcoholism.
One of my AS-related sensory issues is having a really strong sense of smell and even the faintest smell of alcohol on someone's breath conjures up a lot of bad childhood memories. It's almost like a form of post-traumatic stress disorder for me.
On the one hand, this smell aversion kept me on the straight-and-narrow and helped me break the cycle by not developing a drinking problem myself. I'm kind of a health and fitness nut, too, so being a teetotaler probably suits me. On the other hand, though, it really made my college and high school years tougher. I had enough trouble feeling like an outsider as it was without being unable to be around people drinking. |

As of late, I don't mind dark rum (Bundaberg to be precise).
(And yes, I drink by myself.) |

I had to dress up in my new suit for class on Thursday and I decided while I was looking nice I'd run out to the cigar store at the mall and get a nice big fat one and goto the bar and get a scotch on the rocks. It was pretty awesome acting like I had class for 2 hours. Then I went home put my contacts in and the goggles back on and went back to being me. _________________ "No matter how many instances of white swans we see, we must never assume that all swans are white." ~Sir Karl Popper

| Most of the Aspies I know drink once in awhile, but few of them drink regularly. Interestingly, NONE of the Aspies I know smoke pot -- they don't like the way it makes them feel. On the other hand, nearly every one of my ADD clients smoke dope, which of course makes them less, um, attentive. |

Have a strong dislike for the taste, and stay away. However, I've found Rumple Minz with my friend and cribbage is a good time. A good buzz is nice, and thinking becomes easier, for me anyway. I hate beligerant drunks, why can't they just keep a good buzz...? There's no point in drinking till smashed...
For the longest time I held myself to not drink, and when I broke that, it wasn't pretty. I can't seem to "hold" it well... _________________ Still grateful.

I enjoy the occasional beer but I limit myself by drinking only on weekends, usually in my aunt's house or in my own home and I make sure that I alternate each pint with a non-alcoholic beverage such as water or MiWadi.
I rarely go to the many, MANY pubs that are dotted throughout my town (I live in a medium-sized town in Dublin where I've counted five pubs on Main Street ALONE! ) and if I DO venture down to my local, I usually only have about two beers before I call it quits.
The main reason why I'm not a heavy drinker is to do with the fact that I grew up in the fallout of having a severely alcoholic, absentee father who's idea of "visitation days" was to drag me and my brother into a pub all day then drop us both back to Mom's after getting behind the wheel in an inebrated state.
Seeing him as a verbally abusive drunk traumasided me for many years and whilst I'd had the occasional innocent sip of beer as a child (groing up in pubs, curiousity was an inevitablity) I mostly stayed away from alcohol until I was 15 when I discovered alcopops.
That didn't last long, though as I quickly grew to dislike the taste.
My Mom and step-dad (who I both live with) have fairly relaxed attitudes to my own drinking- the rule is that once I know my limits and stick to them, as long as I drink at home or in my aunt's, it's okay.
It's a good rule-it keeps me out of trouble and I'm not the type to go out on a weekend with the sole intent of getting bladdered so I've never had a problem with it.
As for my 'folks', my Mom's a rum drinker and whilst she's nowhere near as bad as my Dad was, she gets drunk occasionally can be a very brash, shouty drunk which I don't like. Granted, she can also be extremely "touchy-feely" and keeps trying to hug me when she's drunk, which I HATE.
My stepdad can easily get through a 12-pack of Budweiser and has a mini-fridge beside the sofa. I'll say no more. -___-;;;
As for actual alcohol, I'm partial to San Miguel but I have to be careful as it's 5.3% alcohol per bottle which is stronger than Miller (4.3%) so if I drink 4 bottles in a night, even if I alternate with a pint of water for every pint of alcohol, I can still get tipsy.
When I find I'm getting tipsy, I stop drinking.
It's a shame most people in my family don't know how to do this. -____-
My aunt is a confrontational drunk and my grandmother is a closet alcoholic who gets verbally confrontational. She's a difficult woman when she's sober but add whiskey... *shudder* |

I'm completely anti-alcohol. I've never had any, never want to.
But, then again, my dad was an alcoholic, so you could say alcohol ruined my life... _________________ "...The heart's desire is found... in an unexpected place..."
