It depends on the eye for me. I prefer a nice warm looking one (like its attached to a smiling face) than a wide open angry one that looks like its shooting eye daggers at me.
Cosmetically Photoshopped colourful eye = nice Smile
Closeup of eye showing pink bits, veins and too much white of eye = ARRGGHH!!! Shocked

Usually I wouldn't mind that unless the eyes appear to be way too creepy. And besides you don't have to look at the avatar if you don't want to Smile

The irises changing colors is a unique touch, a signature avatar!

I have to admit the one eye changing color avatar doesn't bother me because I know it 's a picture, two dimensional, not real. This is going to sound weird but I used to get freaked out whenever I watched a video of my favorite musical artist on television and he looked into the camera and it was same as looking right at me. I used to not be able to handle that. I know that sounds very weird and at the time I thought it was unusual and I was the only one that felt so creeped out just because someone on television looked at me. Nowadays I no longer have that problem and television people do not make me feel anxious.
As for the one eye changing color avatar, we should have a contest and try to guess what the next color will be...sounds like fun.

I agree, particularly the sci fi or 'witchy' animated drawing type stuff. Whole scary faces or frighrening body postures are spooky for me. Or those in bad / offensive taste, body parts, excrement .

I actually do not mind 'the eyes' ones.

The ones that move are the only ones that bother me.
