Hey there I am new here mom to Kiera who is 32 months just DX'd with AS. I am still learning but I am wondering if anyone has any advice on some things: Her Auditory is her biggest issue right now. She hears things a mile away She jumps at the littlest things blowing a nose, coughing, a dog barking can send her into hysterics. Does anyone know of anything to help with this we are doing listening therapy but I don't think it is helping as much as I would like. We got her headphones that block noise that she uses especially in the grocery store etc... Someone suggested musicians earplugs but she would never sit still for a mold like that let alone for anyone touching her!

Also the few friends she does have she doesn't even want to see anymore. She is too afraid they are going to be loud or that is what she says I don't know I guess I am just frustrated as a parent. Its so hard to see your child struggle with simple things and to have no one to talk to about it can be just as hard I guess! I hope to learn a lot while I am here!!

1. Welcome to Wrong Planet

2. Look into ear muffs. They are comfortable because they sit on your head rather then in your ear. They also dont require any fitting.

You could look at these:

He looks so cute.

Hi and welcome. I'm a mom with ASD, have a hubby with ASD, and a 10 y/o daughter with ASD in adddition to 3 adopted children who all have sensory integration problems most likely from prenatal drug abuse. My advice: stay away from noisy, crowded places as much as possible. My 10 and 6 y/o have small MP3 players(Ipod nano for 10 and a Disney Mix Sticks for 6) that we put calm classical, folk, singer-songwriter, and other calming music on. They use them with headphones when we go out places and sometimes at home too. With 4 kids, it's pretty crazy and busy at my little zoo- we have 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 2 guinea pigs too. My kids don't seem to be so sensitive at home and can be quite raucious, especially the 5 and 6 y/o, so I often use the Ipod Nano myself at home Very Happy It helps center me- to focus my attention on the music in my ears rather than the noises going on around me and even the visual sensory input really helps me a lot and always has.

Welcome from me too. I'd agree with the previous post about trying soothing music and headphones. Also, my AS son went to bed wearing earmuffs one night.

Another thought is, have you had her ears checked for ear infections and glue ear(fluid behind the ear)? My son has had ongoing problems with this for the last two months, and he has been incredibly more noise sensitive. It is like listening with your hands over your ears, and it all echoes in your head. The doc told me that when you have fluid behind the ears, you tend to not be able to hear the higher pitched noises, and so strain to hear them, which makes all the lower pitch noises a lot louder, and creates noise sensitivity.

I like the ones that tracker has they would fit her better that is for sure than what we have and annie2 She has tubes in her ears from about 15 months old we go to the ent every 3 months to get it all checked out! Thanks for the suggestion though!!
