I don't like hardcore AFF militant type members. All those people do is destroy a community with their political activist whining and outcasting of people who have had enough outcasting.
If you are one of these members, please go back to AFF. I've lurked on AFF and never signed up because it was so obvious to me that there were too many mind games going on.
Why the hell do people who have trouble in society over heirarchy, social skills and so on create the same kind of dystopia so that those who could use a place where they don't feel alone can actually have a decent discussion rather than the same old outcasting BS?
Please. If you aren't willing to understand that this approach isn't good and no matter how many places the militant types try to create it will implode...you'll never learn and will try that same technique here.
Cliques should remain in the pop culture scene. If your pals at AFF really are into activism, that's great but it's not going to help much if people are getting banned left and right, feeling discouraged, don't know what is really going on and feel outcasted as usual. |

I just got a PM from Mr Mark - correcting me for asking for the banning of rossc.
Just goes to show - how untruths spouted by rossc can be believed even when my words were quoted in the PM.
Nowhere have I asked for rossc to be banned - despite what he says in this thread.
I was also taken to task for attempting to slander rossc.
Did you not notice his attempts to slander and and discredit people in that now deleted thread prior to my comment Mr Mark.
rossc had just called Lucy poisonous and he had suggested to someone else that they are hated by the whole autism community?
He had also attempted to discredit the owners of another forum.
It is important not to take words out of context - and it is also important to make very sure you have understood the facts correctly.
Also - I was prepared to ignore rossc's comments -- but it seems you picked them up Mr Mark on line and stirred up this hornets nest again. This would have been better dealt with in the PM... just as this would have.
But I am stirred up by a feeling of injustice due to your insensitivity.

I don't think most Aspies want to change the world rather than make life as good for them and there loved ones. I moved 3000kms for better specialist schooling for my son. Does that make me an Autistic Advocate? In a sense. I don't go branding myself or waving flags or doing protest marches but I have done occasional letters to an editor if I am offended.
Are the people on AFF "Hardcore Militant Cliquish Activists"? No. Mostly the just hung out and did pretty much what you do here. Some people did have varying degrees of Advocacy. Some of those people were nice ad some I did not care for.
Personally, I don't go the Aspie Supremacists/Anti-NT's. I don't like any kind of bigotry.
I don't think there was this outcasting that you speak of but maybe I did not particularly notice. I don't think there was much in the way of Political whining and certainly was aware that political whining caused the fracture at AFF.
I think you are looking at "us and them" scenarios. To be honest most off us who are likely to be members her are already. That's right look at my join date and post count. Why then does it matter? I will tell you. There may be a few who do decide to come over and I would like to think that they won't be unfairly smeared or told to go away or treated with disrespect.
The reason most people are likely here is they found Wrongplanet first and enjoyed its fit as an autistic online community, the same could be said of people who discovered and stayed with AFF. There are likely to be some real idiots here and some great people too. Same with AFF.

Yeah I think it is just fear. Seriously you may get a few ex-AFF'ers feeling upset at what has gone down and looking for a community and a place to have the same sense of belonging, community and support. That is all. |

Marieclaire you did request my banning and you know that.
Now what I have said here is pretty honest, direct and straightforward.
"That is all" ex-AFF members are wanting in all likelihood. I DO think WP members have fears of an invasion of disgruntled AFF politicised trolls. They are not likely to get them because they don't exist.
They may get a few lonely, stressed Aspies looking for a home but not more than this.
Why it matters to me is regardless of whether they are on the original AFF or the breakaway group. I don't want them unwelcome here because of preconceptions that are unfair.
I am already a member and have been for over a year, it matters not to me.
I am tempted to look again at what you wrote and tear it to shreds but I really can't be bothered. I am hoping that in some way some of you may have seen this in the manner I hoped to convey it and the reasons for. I have no particular beef with anyone here and hope you do not discriminate to ex-AFF'ers friend or foe. Everyone deserves a second shot. |

Prior to my comment on that thread, you had called one member poisonous, you told another member they were hated by the whole autism community, and you sought to discredit the owners of a forum you had just been banned from. This is what drove my comments.
As a member of this forum, I simply ask that people treat each other with respect.
I would like this to be a safe place for all.
Apologies to Mr Mark... sorry ... bit hot headed of me.. I could delete my words, but that would seem dishonest. |

Fair enough. I saw 18 pages of what seemed to be paying out on my friends and people who were hurting and could read the threads. I was honest but a little on the heavy-handed side. I presumed everyone was trying to be offensive because they wanted to be nasty. It is only now I am thinking maybe it was a little more driven from fear.
I did not see much in the way of respect but then fear does tend to mask that.
I have as much subtle as a pregnant hippo on rollerskates doing "Swan Lake". So to those offended, my apologies. |
