I have a little girl that has been diagnosed to have Autism, it seems like she falls within the Aspergers Syndrome catagory, but we will finalise that with a second opinion the week after next by a school educator psychologist.

After having read up on Autism, and their specific diet needs, we went out this morning to replace her cow's milk (which she has been on for about 10 months after formula) with soya milk, we replaced her cereal with rice cereal, and we've decided to only eat fresh fruit and veg, fresh cut meat, no processed foods, and no bread, as there all bread contains wheat, and has gluten.

I am making her now 100ml rooibos tea with 100ml of soya milk (to cool the tea down rapidly) without suger as the soya already has sugar.

I am fine with the food and the milk now. But what I am looking for now, is a basic simple recipe on how to make Maize bread.
Can anyone help please?

O' yes, she is alergic to cat hair and pollin, and she is currently on Deselex. Is there anyone here who can tell me if Deselex has had a negative affected?

Also, can a urine or blood test proove she has autism?

No. Autism is a brain disorder. Urine and blood wouldn't work.

I've read that gluten & Casein is not good for her, and that it can be picked up in urine because the body can not absorb it, is that true?

Some say it is a brain disorder, some say it is a gut thing. Does that depend on what part of the spectrum a person falls under?

It is a brain disorder, acquired genetically. It is not a disease, therefore it can not be cured. Your child is not damaged, therefore she can not be 'fixed.' It is not a chemical imbalance, therefore it can not be detected in the blood or urine. It is not the result of anything you've done, done wrong, done too much, or not done enough.

Your daughter's brain is merely 'wired' differently from neuro-typicals (NTs) such as yourself. She can be trained to communicate effectively with NT's, but since she perceives her world differently than you, some of the concepts may not translate well.

Autism is not a 'gut thing.' Diet (gluten, protein, et cetera), and allergies (fur, foods, pollen, et cetera) may only seem to play a factor, but when you are in discomfort and can't communicate what's wrong, and maybe you don't even understand what's happening to you, it may seem to others that you are just 'spazzing' or 'freaking' out and they will attribute your behavior to autism alone without even considering that you might be suffering.

Please don't be so quick to try every 'cure' or 'treatment' suggested by well-meaning (but ignorant) friends and relatives or 'prescribed' by homeopathic or new-age practitioners (quacks and fakers all). Strange herbs and a rapidly varying diet will only cause your daughter to have more tummy-aches and down days. Try to keep her diet consistent, and avoid the latest fad treatments unless prescribed by a licensed and practicing medical professional - but only if that doctor has a specialty in pediatrics, behavioral disorders, allergies, or some other medical discipline that is relevant to your daughter's conditions.

And after this, consult only with your daughter's physician regarding your daughter's treatment. People have died from following the advice of a stranger they know only from online posts and articles.

Best wishes.

Thanks, but I've heard people say they focus far better when they exclude gluten and casein from their diet. I've also read articles where parents get better results from doing this, all I can try is see if it works. I dont think it will do her much harm to exclude that and replace it with something else like maize and soya milk. It is not like I've heard about this wonder drug and she is on drugs. If it does not work for her, I can put her back on again.

Anyone else that had to make a diet change to this affect and had good results?

Certain diets can help some autistic people, no matter what part of the spectrum they fall into. Some other autistic people have no problem with gluten or casein and are not the least affected by intake of both. Why it helps some, how, nobody knows. Maybe it helps some for reasons as simple as that gut problems cause huge issues to non-autistic people too or because there is a component to a few people's autism that is influences by additional gut problems.

I think what the other poster try to say that visible improvement does not necessarily mean the underlying condition is gone or was touched even, but instead remains and may just be well handled in the present.

To that other question;
No, no test of the world can prove someone is autistic. It is a diagnosis made by observing the development and behaviour of the person.

The definite cause of ASD is yet unknown, though by several studies a lot of genetic abnormalities have been found in autistic people that are however so diverse and individual from person to person that no common cause or definite common factor has been identified yet.

Gluten can sometimes cause neurological disorders in people with Celiac disease. If you daughter does not have Celiac then its not proven that robing her of her milk and grains is going to do any good.

Gluten and Casein Free diet won't usually harm, but it does depend on age how restrictive the diet is. Just because you are on a diet doesn't mean there is an excuse to be irresponsible. Some food is necessary even if it causes some irritation. I heard one that some parents tried to feed a baby on a vegan diet and it nearly died.

I am on the diet because I adult and I can make that decision, but honestly I'm not sure if the difference is that much. It is good to eat fresh ingredients and take an interest in what you are putting in your mouth. But my digestion is more messed up than ever, although that was most likely caused by some pills that might have been off. I've been on the GFCF for longer than that, and it doesn't seem to do much harm even if the sensory different is negligible in my case

Be careful about getting caught up a lot of pseudoscience, some people have in their interests to convince you. Either because they are just that way or they want to sell you stuff. I know from experience some parents can be particularly susceptible to this for some reason. Some treatments to these controversial ideas can be more harmful than what they are trying to combat. For instance chelating agents have shown to cause cognitive problems in rats, and children have died form botched chelating.
