Thats brilliant Canyonwind; its kind of like how I used to get my housework done. I would look and feel helpless and never knew where to start, so I would maybe just choose to polish the table and then maybe just empty a bin and yes, you are right, eventually all the little things got done, maybe over several days, but they did get done |

When I worked for GE Capital (I hated GE Capital) they had a lot of jargon, but one was "low hanging fruit" - pick the low hanging fruit first - i.e. do the easiest things first. Another way of looking at what Canyonwind said.
At times I feel I have become frozen by stress or a feeling of being overwhelmed. But once I start to take some action (anything at at all) then other things seems easier to or to get motivated to do.
One thing I tell myself when I don't really know what to do, is there is no-one around who can do it better than me, so I just have to try.
Greentea, are you still in the same job as you were a couple of months ago? (sorry, I haven't been keeping up to date). So you are still hanging in there? I wonder if that's worse than making a clean break or if its a hopeful sign that it will all work out? _________________ I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in.

Hi Greentea! I'm glad to see something more positive coming your way! Glad to hear you still have a job!
I'm also dealing with elderly parents, & I understand how hard that can be. I'm an only child, & never had a sibling to help carry the burden. I mostly talk with my dad, mom is too weak. I think her health is failing, she's 88 & has multiple bouts of pneumonia & other problems over the past decade. Last year, she lost her only surviving sister. I feel she's not going to be around much longer as she has been slowly giving up. Dad is also having his own good & bad days. His mood affects me as well, as he vents a lot of his frustrations with me. There is little I can do to change things for either of them. They chose to move far away & are now stuck in a place that I had warned them about so many times. There's nothing like feeling helpless to also bring a person down to a very depressed state.
It's not easy to carry so many burdens, but as others have said, choose the easiest tasks first, & the rest will follow. I too have my "downer" days. Sometimes I feel like there is no place for me. But then something happens that makes me keep going. My parents rely on me, & even though there hasn't been a lot of love from them, I am still there as best I can be, mostly out of a sense of obligation.
I hope things continue to improve for you. Keep working on the photography! It's great for lifting spirits & creating a better outlook on life. Take life one moment at a time!
Best of luck to you!

Hi Tomboy, thanks for sharing! Being responsible for others is hard for me, because I can hardly take care of myself. Very hardly, actually. I wish I could just be indifferent like my siblings. But it's usually the "black sheep" that is the most loyal... _________________ "It is the wounded oyster that mends its shell with pearl" - Ralph Waldo Emerson |

Bazza, they haven't fired me so far, but I was demoted. It's very hard, but at least I have a job, since I can't look for one now after the operation. _________________ "It is the wounded oyster that mends its shell with pearl" - Ralph Waldo Emerson |

Merle, I did feel the vibes you sent me!! At the time you wrote your post a few things moved from being stuck. I just got home now, so I hadn't seen your post, but I did tell myself that someone must be sending me good vibes.
So my father is helping me think of a solution for him and make decisions, which is already a lot of help. And at work it doesn't seem like I'm being fired, at least the boss is acting like I'm there to stay. Even though my situation there is bad, I still have a job, which is exhilarating for me at this time when I can't look for a new one. I'm still deep in the mud, but it's not as desperate as it was a couple days ago...
I have no words to thank everyone here for being there during these hard times...!!! |
gee, chinashopbull, I can't think of a nicer person to get thanks from!
