- AMD Phenom(TM) 9750 quad-core processor (2.4GHz)
- 8GB DDR2-800MHz dual channel SDRAM (4x2048)
- 1GB NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT, 2 DVI, HDMI adapter
- 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
- 802.11 a/b/g/n Wireless LAN card

Overkill much with the installed RAM? I can't see you needing more that 2GB, perhaps 4GB at the absolute max.

For connecting your wireless devices to the internet, a wireless LAN card won't help you. You'll need a wireless router for that, a wireless LAN card on your computer will just let you connect the computer to a wireless router.

I'd also highly recommend going for an Intel Core 2 processor over anything made by AMD. And I'd get a faster clocked dual core over a quad core any day. There simply aren't enough multi threaded applications to take advantage of four cores and you'll get faster performance in most applications in a faster clocked dual core. I would recommend getting the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, E8500 if you can get it cheap, or perhaps even waiting for the next release.

The NVIDIA 9800GT isn't worth it imo, it's barely more powerful than the 8800GT which is a far cheaper last generation card that uses much less power. I would recommend getting a ATI Radeon 4850 or 4870.

8 gigs of RAM..... You running multiple Virtual Machines? Only reason you would need that much ram.

64 bit OS..... your probably gona run into issues with driver compatibility. 64 bit version of drivers can be hard to find.

Yea AMD's tend to run hotter then Intel.

And yea your gona need a Wireless router to wirelessly connect your to the internet.

Not bad. Fancier hardware than my puny 1GB RAM, but then I'm not running Vista, so my jealousy is limited. Razz

I think you need to do a bit more research before wasting your money on an incredibly expensive setup that will run your games slower than far cheaper and more efficient setups.

Dang, are we seriously bashing this guy over his hardware? This seems a bit over-the-top, E_O. Back off.

thanks for the defense orwell.

Me being me, I like to get the biggest and best. It leaves me a little wiggle room for future gaming and computing - I won't have to replace it three years down the road.

^The wiggle room is a good point. 8GB sounds excessive now, but my laptop seemed great with 1GB before, and nowadays 2GB or even 4 seems more reasonable. Certainly, I can't install Vista on my machine as easily as if I had more RAM, and software requirements are only going to increase as time goes on.

What the hell are you talking about? I said that he needs to research the parts he plans on getting, instead of blowing all his money on things he isn't going to need and will regret purchasing later. I wasn't 'bashing' anyone, thankyou very much.

Nice rig you got there Smile, and as Orwell says, it might seem overkill now but it will be a very nice setup for at least five more years

Sounds like a lovely machine. What will you name it?

Trogdor is already taken by my computer.

I assume that vista is going to find some use for the bulk of that ram.

I think it's a good set up. Unfortunately, Intel's version of quad core is 2x dual cores put together, whereas AMD's quad core works better, all cores can communicate with each other directly. Intel's version would just be a "circle" rather than a "mesh" of interaction.

I'm just wondering why not the nVidia 260/280 GFX adaptor? GT versions rock... Immense gaming power.

That amount of RAM will be see as puny as people say 128MB RAM when Windows 95 was still fresh. How long untill an OS needs 8GB RAM minimum? Dual/Tri Channel memory - sweeeeeeet
