Fnord's Predictions for 2009:· The next president of the United States of America will approve an increase in taxes.
· There will be at least 24 hours of civil unrest in at least one major urban area.
· The people who believe that the attacks on September 11, 2001 were part of a governmental conspiracy will STILL have not produced any meaningful results.
· I will become a grandfather for the first time.
· At least one more major American corporation will declare bankruptcy after giving its CEO a severence package worth more than ten million American dollars.
· Enya's latest CD release will be greeted with resounding indifference from all over the world.
· Bill Gates will purchase or form his own entertainment production company.

There will be an Autism Rememberance Day in the fall of 2009,
similar to Transgender Rememberance Day every November.
Autism Speaks will FINALLY be exposed as

Washington Mutual will merge with Bank of America by July 2009.
McCain, if elected, will approve higher taxes
and off-shore drilling on the West Coast of the US.
Obama, if elected, will re-ban off-shore drilling
and cut taxes for the average American.
Gov. Ted Kulongoski will annouce he will not run for
a 3rd term as governor of Oregon.
Sen. Gordon Smith will be out and Jeff Merkley will take his place.
Inflation will close to 10% by summer.

Seriously? Do you know how many years the Russians and then the US spent fighting just over the border in Afghanistan? And waaaaay before them, equally unsuccessfully, the British? What makes you think that the tribal areas in NW Pakistan would be any easier to conquer?
Oh, and don't forget, the US doesn't have UN resolutions to support invading yet another sovereign nation. Even the 'hot pursuit' seems to be on iffy grounds.
It's a very fluid border. If they couldn't succeed in Afghanistan how can they succeed in Pakistan?
The tribal areas are called tribal areas because they are basically ruled by the different tribal leaders. They're pretty much lawless areas, that refuse to be governed from afar by Islamabad and kind of rule themselves. |
