'Sensory helps' like weight blankets?
No. Weight blankets would have really helped me when I was younger.
I did just pick up a bargain fur suede heavy throw blanket. It's relaxing.
Mostly, the radio is always my helper-drowning the frightening sounds of silence in a world wired world.
Air movers/conditioners/treaters/fans-so I don't have to listen to the loud neighbors talking in strange pitches for having a wind(ow) open.
Clear lightbulbs so the false lights in the house do not seem so... disturbingly covered.
Plants.
Curtains-dark enough to keep out the light when I need inner shadow on a bright day; heavy enough to keep out the drafts of cheap mass produced glass in winter.
Extra heaters.
What I need is an old time Hammock, a fireplace, and a large breed protection dog that likes to run and jump-but, I don't have a fireplace, the apartments are 'no pets', and my landlords likely may not go for the giant eye bolts through the studs.
Too lazy/unorganized anyways to do for myself properly. _________________ "I'm sorry Katya, my dear, but where we come from, your what's known as a pet; a not quite human novelty. It's why we brought you.... It's nothing to be ashamed of, my dear, but here you are and here you'll sit." |

Polarized sunglasses with lightly-hued lenses. I wear them inside when necessary and outside always. They do double duty as an interpersonal communication aid too (people can't see what you're looking at when you're talking to them). _________________ Checkout: Folding@home!

Oddly enough, I find talking to people in sun glasses a peculiar and disturbing experience because I can't see their eyes even if I want to. |

I bet you've gotten over that, though. You can't fault someone for trying to protect their eyes and/or see better. _________________ Checkout: Folding@home!

| Isn't strange how wearing sunglasses helps when talking with others. I wear them as often as I can as it keeps me more calm and I am at ease when interacting. I do have sensitive eyes that tear easy and can't tolerate bright sunlight. |

| I avoid flouresent light at most costs. I like to sit in the dark. But my bigest help is using a shower brush, with harsh bristles, when I shower. I exfoliate and calm down my nerves at the same time. And deep tissue massage! Light just flares up all sorts of sensory issues, but deep pressure calms down my overactive nerves. Chirporatic adjustments seem to help too. That's a newer attempt, and jurys still out on that. Though ive read many articles that say adjustments do wonders for sensory problems and hyperactivity. |

I agree, Strapples is such a lucky guy. LOL.
I use my son's game chair because it rocks and it has a back massager on it. It's pretty good for sensory input. You can put your MP3 player on it and it comes out from speakers close to your ears. Great sensory support.
I don't have a weighted blanket, but I do have a mink blanket that weighs about 15 pounds, so that kind of takes the place of a weighted blanket for me.
I wear a hoodie alot too. I don't know what it does, but I really just like my arms to be covered all the time. So, I guess that's a sort of sensory thing. I don't usually wear the hood up or anything like that. I just like the nice soft feeling hoodie. I have a couple of different ones that I wear. One that was my son's which he'd already broken in nicely and one that I bought at Yellowstone which is very soft fleece inside. _________________ "All those things that you taught me to fear

I use some noise reducing headphones to muffle an overwhelming chatter-filled room, I hug my pillow and curl up in my terrycloth blanket when I need comfort, and I have sunglasses I wear when I go outside and the sun is too bright. _________________ "I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions."--Augusten Burroughs |
