Sorry for not being on lately, been busy w/ Deca and my computer business that donates money to the Special Ed Department. While installing Symantec Antivius Corporate 9 on old laptop [Latest version for Windows 98SE.] it won't autoupdate. It will retrieve the updates via Liveupate[SAV 9 is supported intil 2013.] but only if I do it manually.
Please don't tell me to upgrade to WinXP. When you are working on a 300Mhz PII w/ 128 MB Memory Windows 98SE is perfect. It is faster on Win98SE than a 2 Ghz P4 w/ 512MB Memory running on XP. I have also never had any problems running SAV 9 on 98SE until this now. |

hey gamefreak, handt heard from you in a while, hope eveything is ok,
heres a suggestion about SAV 9, the liveupdating is done as a scheduled task for liveupdate,
heres what to do, in the sav 9 folder you should find vdtm_lu.exe have windows run this once a day (this is the liveupdate file) (go to system tools and select scheduled tasks)
reason why SAV9 isnt updating automatically, SAV 9 assumes that its on a management server and that its being done on the server. but since your sav9 is on a win 98 se laptop you cannot get the updates automatically
hope this helps, keep in touch gamefreak,

Go for Sophos ( http://www.sophos.com ) instead. It's totally free if one decides to insert new login details 1 time every 30 days.
Symantec offers good backup solutions, but I would never rely on their anti-virus solutions to do the job correctly. There are better alternatives in my opinion.
Not even the protection from Sophos is enough, though.. |
