Warning this thread will contain ***spoilers***

In your opinion what was the most innovative horror game??

Please note that games not yet released shouldn't be put in this list unless your from the future and if you are from the future please no spoilers??

My opinion contains ***spoiler***
In my opinion Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem was the most innovative horror game in the last oh 15 years or so. Instead of just limiting the horror to the game world it goes and brings to horror to you, the game will play with the volume, cut the video then make it sound like your character got killed and my favorite it will pop up a screen that says your data has been corrupted and all your saved data is gone.

Well I'd have to say Resident Evil, since when it first came out it really scared the crap outta me. I don't really play horror games though, because I can't close my eyes when it gets scary (I die). I don't know if Diablo was considered a horror game, but the part with the butcher still stands as the scariest video game moment ever.

When I first saw the thread title, the first game that popped to mind was Eternal Darkness. I loved that game. Best Gamecube game ever made, IMO.

i thought system shock 2 did an amazing job with the sound design to create a truly tense environment.

Innovative?

Only thing I can think of is Alone in the Dark...everything else just borrowed from it.

Then again, AitD borrowed a lot from its unofficial prequel, Shadow of the Comet...but AitD had that famous engine that Resident Evil and countless others imitated.

Though I'm kind of glad nobody uses that engine anymore...playing a game where 75% of the gameplay consists of shooting at crap that isn't on the screen isn't exactly my idea of fun times Mad

Anyway, one thing's for sure, we owe Mr. Lovecraft a whole heck of a lot of gratitude for inspiring so many great games \m/ (and, you know, his books too)

I haven't played many horror games but I would say Condemned 2: Bloodshot for the 360.

Since I'm a oldtimer it seems that a suite of games produced in the era when CD-ROM games first was evolving to IBM PC games, a couple of must-have's is 7th Guest (creepy) and 11th Hour (a little bit less creepy), both PG18.

Both have good plots, and are good games. Drawback is that you have to be able to understand english language, and subtile undertonations of the spoken language in the games. Not that easy...

I loved those games. Fantastic.

Old Man Stauf built a house, and filled it with his toys
Six Guests were invited one night, their screams the only noise
Blood inside the library, blood right up the hall
Dripping down the attic stairs, hey guests, try not to fall
Nobody came out that night, not one was ever seen
But Old Man Stauf is waiting there, crazy, sick AND MEAN!
