Check out the third question and answer in this column:

Why do they have to say that she might have Asperger's? It's possible of course, but there are also arrogant, snobbish people out there who don't have AS, probably a lot of them. I hate to think that AS is now being blamed for snobbishness, arrogance and rudeness the world over now.

I'm not saying Aspies can't be snobbish, arrogant or rude, or appear so. I'm just saying that now it seems to be something that people seize on now when someone is described this way: "Maybe she/he has AS". Maybe she/he's just an a**hole!

There really wasn't anything in the parent's letter to indicate the girl couldn't understand social situations; it seemed like she just didn't care. I guess its a good thing if people are asked to be more understanding, to consider that the person they consider rude might not be, just confused ... BUT, implying it in that situation doesn't do much for the image, and the reference came off as "naming of the condition of the moment." The terms describing the girlfriend aren't the ones I usually see applied when an AS person is being misunderstood.

Wow, that reminds me of this skit Kids in the Hall did where one of the guys was acting as someone who couldn't help sounding sarcastic. I found it on YouTube!

I hope nobody finds this offensive, like I'm suggesting the character who's sarcastic is like Aspies in general. I just found it kind of funny, in the way they did, like what if someone really couldn't help talking sarcastically all the time?

I see now why there were so few responses; rudeness is relative, and arrogance or snob-ism are not autistic traits.
