There are many overrated TV shows out there, but which ones are the most overrated? My suggestions:

Seinfeld

The only thing that's even remotely funny about this show is the scene with the "double-dipping".

Smallville

The best way to abuse DC Comics characters is to make teen dramas about them.

Sex and the City

I don't see what's so funny about a bunch of middle aged women acting like stereotypical homosexual men.

Friends

Not funny at all.

Lost

I bet you five bucks that they're going to stay on that island for at least ten more seasons.

Oprah Winfrey, Ricky Lake etc.

These talkshows profit from people with emotional problems.

Everybody loves Raymond

I don't love Raymond.

Star Trek

In the terrestrial Navy, you don't put all of your highest-ranking bridge officers into one shuttlecraft just to go look at something interesting. Instead, you send out one junior officer (Ensign or Lieutenant Junior Grade), a Chief Petty Officer, a 2nd-Class Petty Officer, and three or four crewmembers of Seaman level or less to act as grunts and cannon fodder ... and nobody gets to wear the red shirt!

Scrubs, My Name Is Earl, Family Guy (Don't really find those shows funny at all.)

- Sex and the City: all my friends in middle school loved it because there were boobies (if you had HBO in my neighborhood you were the man). But as the show went on there was less and less boobies and all we were left with were a bunch of shrill middle-aged women with as much common sense as a box of instant potatoes and who were boning half of the upper east side. "Ooh I'm waving around a dildo on national TV!" You know who else does that? Gay winos. It's thank to this show I want the Hamptons fire-bombed (after Cancun during spring break).

- Lost: people at my school love this show and I laugh at them. Mostly because I know there's no ending in the world that would be satisfying for this kind of story so loyal fans are gonna be in for a kick in the balls when the series finale rolls around.

- Everybody loves Raymond: I have a secret theory that nobody's ever watched this show. Oh they've SEEN it. They've caught one or two episodes while flipping through the channels. But nobody goes out of their way to watch it like we did for The Simpsons or Seinfeld back in the day. Which makes the fact that it was so highly rated all the more confusing.

- Desperate Housewives & Grey's Anatomy: I lump these two together because of the way both shows handle sex. It seems you can't have intercourse on one of these shows unless it's someone who's not your official partner and it's behind their back. And you have to have a messy break-up before getting back together and repeating the process a million times. All while throwing in the occasional murder mystery or open heart surgery. Some would say it makes for good drama but I just find it ridiculous.

Meerkat Manor Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Ugh! I used to be the only one who knew about them and was told I needed to find other intrests. Now that meerkat manor is out everybody liked them and now it's okay for me to just becuase everybody else does. I can't talk about meerkats without meerkat manor being brought up. Plus a meerkat dies or gets hurt in every episode. I don't like to see meerkats even get a papercut.

Practicaly everything on TV. Everything is soooo boring these days. I used to love Animal Planet as a kid but now it's gotten people oriented and boring. Even other shows I used to love like America's Funniest Home Videos, CSI, Monster Quest and UFO files are boring.

Desperate Housewives- title says it all (only good thing is the theme song by Danny Elfman, he wasted an awesome song on a p.o.c show)

Lost- watched one episode well a piece of one and it was terrible

Grey's Anatomy- liked it for a while but then it got annoying

Gossip Girl- same as DH...

Sex and the City- same as DH and GG

right now i can't think of any over-promoted and overrated tv shows...

i didn't know Everybody Loves Raymond and Star Trek counted...or Smallville or talk shows...i've never heard anyone say how good those are....or be excessively promoted on television....though i did like Everybody Loves Raymond and i do watch Family Guy....but that and Friends aren't one anymore....Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond were good but they weren't epic or anything...and i've never heard anyone overrate family guy....its been canceled a couple times....complete opposite, people would complain about it....then it got canceled but then turned out a lot people liked it since DVD sales were doing extremely well so it went back on the air....Seinfeld...also no longer making new episodes but i don't know if it was overrated or not when it was....also good, but not magnificent....

LOST - I loved this show until they killed off my favorite character (Charlie Pace). Now I don't care anymore, although John Locke is still one of the single coolest characters in the history of broadcast television.

Friends - I've only watched three episodes of this show, and none of them answered my questions to why this was such an all conquering phenomenon

Heroes - I started watching this when LOST killed the aforementioned burnt-out rock star/sympathetic recovering junkie character I liked. The entire second season is one big middle finger to its fans.

NCIS - OK, I love this show, alot, but I have no clue why every elderly person on the planet likes it.

Family Guy - There's some built-in like for me, because it's set in my home state, it was created by a local, and frequently name checks local places, people and saying and I like surreal humor, but the Peter/Chicken thing was only funny the first time it randomly interrupted the plot. Then it just got boring. Now the show is run is manatees and the new episodes don't stand up to its original run.

The Simpsons since approximately Season 14 - with a couple exceptions (namely "Homer Simpson, This Is Your Wife", which Ricky Gervais wrote, and the Emmy-winning "Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind") this show has just become a shell of it's once great self. They ran out of ideas after season 14, the last season with multiple above average-to-excellent episodes, and the last to make good use of celebrity cameos (namely those of David Byrne and George Plimpton). I mean, last season, Zooey Deschanel - one of the most talented character actresses in Hollywood - guest starred in an episode and even she couldn't save that episode's plot. I'd really love for this show to end before it starts getting embarrassing to even like the older episodes.

The Grizzly Man Diaries *SPOILER* He gets eaten by bears.

Hell, it would be quicker to list shows that aren't overrated.

All reality T.V.

PunyKat,

I agree about Meerkat Manor. I was hoping to see something cute and lighthearted. Right from the strart, however, it was sad and depressing. I hate seeing any animal get hurt.

American Idol

No one on this show has an excuse not make it on their own with the Internet, Myspace, Imeem, and so forth. These people are doing this for one thing: fame. This is not the reason why you make music.

Any Evening News

Death and destruction... news at 11

The O'Reilly Factor

Complete insanity... Bill could learn a thing or two about grilling his interviewees from BBC's Jeremy Paxman. Observe below...

Any made-for-TV movie on Sci-Fi channel

Hype, hype, hype! with special effects...

Larry King Live

This old fart needs to get off the air!

Extreme Makeover House Edition and Flip This House

Probably responsible for people's warped perception of homeownership!

Chuck

I don't get it

Heroes (season 3)

Something better happen soon Sad

Stargate Atlantis

WTF?

Dr Phil

Anyone that can sell weight-loss books and look like a whale needs to be banned from television. Shame on your Ms. O for introducing this fraud to the world.

I love "Everybody Loves Raymond" too; some of the shows that I think are overrated are:

"Gossip Girl": I've never been interested in petty gossip, so I think it would be a very boring show.

"Grey's Anatomy": I think it would be boring to me, for the same reason as "Gossip Girl".
