I got several calls similar to this from an old lady shortly after moving to France. My French was very limited at the time but each time she called I did my best to tell her the person she wanted was not at this number and she has the wrong number. But she kept phoning over several weeks. In the end I gave up and just spoke English back at her. This confused her even more and she wanted to know why I was speaking English. Duh! I'm English!!! Eventually someone else phoned, a younger woman, presumably on her behalf who spoke some English. It seems I had be allocated a phone number that previously belonged to this other person at some time - maybe even several years earlier. I think the old lady must have been somewhat senile or confused though not to figure this out. _________________ The Sun has risen and set for millennia. I used to get calls from an old man who was looking for "Frank." The trouble was that my phone at that time was through the military's Autovon exchange. Then one day, I got called into the Old Man's office to explain why a foreign national was trying to contact me.
Once it got straightened out, it seems that the old man's daughter had run off (eloped) with a military fellow by the last name of "Franke" - about 20 years previously - and that neither of them had been heard from since.
A simple change of number took care of my troubles, but I hope the old man eventually found out what had happened to his daughter. _________________ The leaders of the American automobile industry have been amazingly consistent in their management philosophy, in that they have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity. |

^ That's sad.
I had to change my number because apparently someone who was in deep debt had a similar number, and I got several collection calls a day that would clog my voicemail box.
The last straw was when I started getting an internet service charge ON MY TELEPHONE BILL in this person's name. The telephone company removed the charge immediately, but still . . . eeeww. |

The way to rid yourself of Jehovah Witnesses is to A. have a Christian friend come over and start asking them why they don't agree with the Bible.
B. Have a Christian friend give you some 'talking points' so you can ask them these questions.
Otherwise, they'll just keep coming back. They keep a list, you know. |
actually, I used to be Christian (a looong time ago) and I still remember a lot from the Bible... I bet I could beat them myself!
funny I never thought of that. thanks, Prof! _________________ I got some bad ideas in my head. (Taxi Driver) |

Are you sure you've got the right religion? I know Jehovah's Witnesses who enjoy the odd glass/pint/beer. OVER consumption is unacceptable, however. |
yeah, they have some weird rules... no alcohol, no birthdays, no blood transfusions... who on Earth would want to join that bloody gang?
anyway, I've seen Muslims enjoying the odd glass of beer as well, it all depends how good a Wittness/Muslim/whatever you are I guess. _________________ I got some bad ideas in my head. (Taxi Driver) |

Sometimes I get phones calls asking for someone who doesn't even live here.
I got a call asking for Dylan Trosper the other day. It was about a college survey and I said there was no Dylan here. The lady apologized and hung up. _________________ http://www.factcheck.org/

I'm also reminded of a story of someone I knew named Williams. Unfortunately, he also had a telephone number that used to belong to someone ELSE named "Williams" only this was a SERGEANT Williams of the police force or military - he never was able to get that one straightened out!

Actually, they will probably make them come back MORE. The Jehovah's Witnesses I know are really, really into the Bible. |

Well RubieRoze, it's always worked for me. You have to point out the inconsistencies of their Jehovah Bible. I don't have all the details, but I'm sure if you look them up on Wiki you'll pick up the details. The reason they won't come back is they don't like to argue, and they figure you're probably well grounded enough in basic Christianity that you're not going to join them. Like the Mormons, they're looking for the dis-affected, and lonely who aren't very well read Biblically. _________________ I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
