Well the last time I posted we were not sure as to whether our daughter had Aspergers or not. After an appointment with the psychiatrist we now has a definite diagnosis and it is Aspergers. It really explains alot of issues we have been going through with her. It sure explains the little rituals she has or should I say routines. We never knew why she had to do these things everyday, or why she got so upset when we told her that she couldnt. Well now we know why. When the psychiatrist told us it was as if someone had taken a huge weight off my shoulders. I thought to myself, wow so this is why she does this and this is why she does that.
So now we are in the process of setting up some strategies to help her out and to help her get ready for high school next year. Luckily we have the year 9 dean on our side who is willing to help us out as much as she can and the school is also happy to work along side the psychologist to make sure the plans are all followed through with properly.
I can wait to finally be able to have a happy child, well at least I hope that is what she will be like. At least for the time being as long as I dont change her routine suddenly she doesnt have any melt downs and the days seem to go along alot better. Now if we could only get her hygiene levels up to a better standard. But one step at a time. |

Grats, I wish you all the best of luck.
You seem to really be making the most out of this anyway so I'm sure the outlook's positive. |

Getting a diagnosis was so positive for us. It's like being handed a set of keys.
You won't be able to magically change a frustrated child into a happy one, but you can begin the process, now that you have better tools.
Best of luck to you and your daughter! _________________ Avatar copyright DW's Studio |

I'm still in limbo. Waiting for the appointment. But I know what a relief it will be to have it confirmed.
Wishing you all the best, now that you can move on.
One of the things I can't wait , is showing my son this place, so that he knows he's not the only one who is different to the NT's. |
