Now, after seeing ads for Wipeout (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wipeout_(2008_game_show)) on Channel 9 here in Australia, I was pretty certain that it was a rip-off of Takeshi's Castle, having seen that on Pay TV.

It turns out that the Japanese, coincidentally, agree with me.

thats nothing unique. networks do this constantly.

it may not even be appropriate to go as far as calling it a rip-off as there is a likelihood that it's the same people selling it.

What do they do for an encore, ban MXC (Most
Extreme elimination Challenge) on the cable channel
Spike TV (US and Canada)?

they won't ban MXC i don't think because MXC acknowledges the fact in the credits that the footage is from Takahashi's castle (i assume they pay royalties to use it)

I haven't seen MXC in ages. It's one of my favorite shows!

I love Takeshi's Castle, it's hilarious. I seriously think that it's going to loose a lot of it's entertaining value if you take away the funny language.
