I did a computer class in highschool that helped, but compared to others I am not very good, I still have to look a bit while typeing at the keys.

you are supposed to rest your right hands fingers on: ASDF, notice how F has a line on it, this to reference through touch as the pointer finger finds this key. And put your right hand on JKL; notice how there is a line on J for reference of your pointer finger, in this position each finger is supposed to press specific keys. I realy hated doing the learning of this and I always finished last, also they say you should check/correct errors after you are finished writing.

I touch type. It is definitely a skill worth learning. The latest keyboards I've had haven't had a strongly defined raised bit on the F and J keys so the first job was to put a tiny speck of Araldite epoxy resin on them so I can feel the home keys easier. It makes a huge difference if you can just type without having to look at the keyboard, it is so much faster.

I can't touch type, so I look at the keyboard at regular intervals. I can type at around 40WPM.

I can touch type, but I cheat a little bit...sometimes I'll press "Y" with my left hand instead of my right, little things like that. Had a required class in high school that taught touch typing, helped me out a whole lot.

I learned the whole "resting your fingers on the middle line crap" but I prefer to do it my way ...

I was doing programming so I couldn't afford to make some mistakes. I've been playing with keyboards since I was about 9years old. I type around 60 wpm, but I need to measure it exactly.

Technically speaking, I should know where the keys are as I play games in the dark (best setting) so I can't afford to find the keys.

As I do not use the middle line which is supposed to help you use all your digits, I use them all anyway, doing it my way. None of this 2 finger crap

i usually don't look at the keyboard, although i find i need to more when it's dark because i usually glance at the keyboard to get started and can see where my fingers are in my periphery so the darkness does hinder my typing ability to some degree. i can type pretty quickly though.

Congratulations, Gismo, on having acquired a very useful skill so early in life!

My son, who is 11, is working on it. But he has problems with his hands, so it is difficult for him. Easier, long run, than handwriting, but still not something he can acquire easily.

I have touch-typed for years. My family watches in awe, lol.

i can type at between 55 and 60wpm, which is about what the average typist does, according to wikipedia. i think i can attribute my typing ability to online games where in order to say anything while playing you had to type quickly. it's hard to call for help when you're getting rushed by a massive zerg force if you have to look at the keys to type.
