I have wanted to be like them so I would stopped being teased, tricked and lied to, not because I actually thought they were interesting or cool when I was in highschool. Recently, I have been curious yes, I even tried to dress up different "I use the same colours and similatr clothes since age 14", so I bought clothes that were weird but "cool" and it made me feel like a fool. I wanted to be myself but at the same time I didn't want to be pressured by teachers or mocked by class-mates during school. I've been overcoming this in college, I don't want to be like them, really. I would love to "study" and "observe" them, I observed how girls behaved so I'd behave like a lady, but in the end it didn't work out. It's like it's April's fool everyday and I am the fool, but I have changed and think that being fool may be cool.

there's times when I wish I was more like them- more ignorant and oblivious of the world's problems, happy with my own little life and not striving for something bigger.

Somehow, I don't think it'd be much easier once you got to a certain point. Many of our social problems plague nuerotypicals as well.
It'd be nice though. Even if autism isn't a curse, the label itself has made me afraid to even try socializing in the past.

Very specifically,
I obsessively admire their traits that make them NOT INVOLUNTARILY CELIBATE.

Maybe ... sometimes ... it would be nice to have a "Norman Rockwell" style family get-together during the holidays ... otherwise, no.

Well, welcome aboard the Aspie spaceship then SoulDriven. Smile

I don't want to be like the NS, but I wish I could manipulate them. They're a thousand times better than me at manipulation, though.

(NS = Neurostandard)

I used to want to be like them, now I really don't care because I have learnt to be happy in my own skin.

From years and years of experiences with NTs - I would HATE to be like them. Of course there are exceptions, but in general I have found them to be selfish, manipulative, fake, shallow, deceitful, greedy, intolerant, ignorant, and downright rude.

I wish that social interaction didn't tire me out so much. Some days, I come home exhausted because I had to interact too much - or there was too much going on around me that I couldn't shut out.

Otherwise, I value whatever it is in my head that makes me think in a different manner from NTs.

I agree with both of you. There are exceptions, of course, but the majority are as you both describe. This is based on years of experience for me also. And like Kelsi, I would HATE to be like that.

I think that the NTs that I bother to actually get to know are nice, caring, unselfish, intelligent, very creative imaginations, polite, friendly, and are very good people as far as I am concerned. There are not just few exceptions but many. I do know some NTs like that though, I would add annoying to the list.

No offence, but I think classifying them like that is not any different then what they say and think about those on the autistic spectrum (Rainman, Einstein, etc.)
