"Toughen up." Elementary school principal.
I have also been told "They are jealous." I don't see how that is bad advice.
"Just ignore it." Talking about the straps bothering me from my slip.
"You'll get used to it." My mother told me that when she made me wear these jean shorts and they felt real tight and heavy. I always took them off when she wasn't around. Luckily she never made me wear them out in public, only to school one time. _________________ http://www.factcheck.org/

Almost have have come from the religious community- Do this, do that. GOD wants you to do this or that: Big stuff, too. And when it went to sh*t, well, then I was supposed to repent.
If you have autism, STAY AWAY FROM FUNDIES!!! THere';s some advice. |

I think the all-time worst is to ignore bullying and teasing. ''They just want to get a rise out of you...'' So I thought they'd stop if I didn't respond. They never stopped.
What awful advice! Basically, 'Just shut up and take it.' |
i got that advice too. it is pretty bad.
and also the "they are just jealous of you" line. |
Jealous of what?!?!
That one never made sense to me. I was jealous of them!
Advice never seems to work, first of all, if I need some help the sitiuation is never fully explainable. Second of all, even if it was, what's good for one person ain't good for another. Advice never seems to help....
"You can do anything you want"
Ok. That narrows it down... Leave it up to me eh? 22 years later....NOTHING. _________________ Still grateful.

Try drinking. It takes the edge off.
Just try to not be awkward. You'd have more friends if you didn't seem so awkward all the time. ---Damnit! I was so trying to maintain the awkwardness and this whole time it was actually the problem. |

When my mother told me kids were jealous of me so that's why they make fun of me is because I have clothes they don't have or I have freckles on my face and they don't.
Also I got to leave class to go to speech therapy and special ed. Lot of kids would love to escape their school work for a short bit.
My mother was probably guessing when she said those things except for the leaving the classroom part, I added that.
Another thing I was told by my father:
"You learn as you get older"
"You'll get better"
"Things will get better when you're an adult"
That might be advice for lot of you but it was good for me because he was indeed correct. I did learn as I got older, things did get better when I finished high school. I don't get bad treatment by society like I did when I was a kid.
I did get better with jokes and sarcasm. I am less literal now than I was in middle school. I learned when someone laughs after saying something, they were just joking.
I wonder if my dad was comparing myself to him. I wonder if he had all those difficulties as a kid and then thought it will be the same with me which was coincidentally correct. _________________ http://www.factcheck.org/

Those are great worst advices: I hated them, too:
1. Get over it
2. Just pray about it.
3. Don't think about it.
4. You can do whatever you want.......
5. Stay busy
6. Help someone else (insulting as well, as that person was trying to say I am totally self absorbed.)
7. Get a job.
8. Name it and Claim it. (Yes, that theology is still rife).
9. Just get on with your life.
Gad. Idiots.
There are more. |

I thought of another one:
"Just talk! Say whatever you're thinking."
Yeah, that would work if only my mind didn't go completely blank every time someone looks at me.

I have been given much advice in my life. I have ignored most of it, as you should.
This annoys many people. One conversation I had went like this:
THEM : "Why do you never take the advice of others"
ME : "Because I don't think it's right for me"
THEM : "I think you should listen to people for a change"
ME: "But how will I know the difference between good advice and bad advice?"
THEM : "You have to figure that out"
Yes. Right.
I think people become annoyed at me because I don't follow THEIR advice. Everyone else may give bad advice, but not THEM. And if you don't follow their advice, then you are stupid. _________________ "Hulk will fight back as Hulk always fights back--but will Hulk's friends fight beside him? They will not help Hulk. "Just be more sociable".
That was my head teacher, after I'd been swung round the room by my hair by a bigger girl who didn't like it that I wouldn't give her the magazine I was standing quietly reading. In a school disco. She never explained how I could be more sociable, nor why reading a magazine at a school disco wasn't acceptable behavior, nor, indeed, why I and not the bully had been called to her office. Strange.
"If you took more care over your appearance, more people would like you."
My mother. This was her solution to everything in my life, by the way.
"There's only one man who can fulfil your dreams".
A classmate, when I was complaining about how boys despised me and I didn't think I'd ever find the man of my dreams. It turned out she meant Jesus, so I'm not sure what kind of dreams she assumed I was talking about... _________________ Birds scream at the top of their lungs in horrified hellish rage every morning at daybreak to warn us all of the truth but sadly we don't speak bird. |
