Can anyone recommend a book on how to figure out what kind of rocks I have? I've got about a bowlfull and I'd like to know what they are Smile. Thanks!

I don't like that the only labels I can put on them are "sparkly" or "white" Razz

I don't know of any book in particular.

If they're sparkly, they probably have either quartz or mica in them. White could be a lot of things.

Can you post pictures of them?

You might want to go on web sites or find books related to mineralogy.

Actually, my major is Geography/Urban Planning now, but geology is my minor.

Nearest library should have some illustrated books.

Could be quartz, if it's hard and crystalline.

I guess I wasn't finding any books because I was looking up "book about rocks" or something to that affect and I was finding rock and roll music and the likes. My battery is charging but if anyone wants to peek I'll have some pics up soon.

I think some are fossils, and I paid for the 'amethyst' and possible aventurine, also, the slab of petosky and the weird big geode thing.

It resembles bone a litttle but...maybe some kind of sandstone..?
looks a little like it has been exposed to scorching heat in a way,
but that might just be a resemblance
