Unfortunately he also proposes starting a 'Decade of Contact', which seems to mean spending a whole lot of public money on UFO education. Is he on the right track here, that we can't afford to ignore the rest of the Universe any longer?" From the article: "The United States military are preparing weapons which could be used against the aliens, and they could get us into an intergalactic war without us ever having any warning ... The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide."

Hey, it could happen.
Should we be prepared? Considering that they are aliens - we have no way of knowing what they'll do or what they'll want. Without any clear way of accessing their (perhaps hypothetical) motives, I don't think it really matters. It's like trying to get dogs and cats to work together to form a new society.
Looking for them, on the other hand, may not be such a bad idea. But SETI has been doing that for a long time. Interesting precedent. |

The Carter ET com study outlined the procedure and reaction in such matters, including the USA tactical response. Hellyer has been shouting to the heavens since being, as he puts it himself 'turned around' on the subject. I say, release the files and let the public really know whats going on.
It'll never happen though, not for seven years at least maybe heh.

i also know as a devoted trekkie
that Earth Final Conflict was filmed up in Toronto
with a hefty sum of money from the Canadian gov't ...
the lead actors and actresses are sometimes American,
yet 90% of the jobs are Canadian. http://www.efc.com/
it is with interest that i am expectatingly waiting for
the lid to be ripped off of the longtime gov't censorship here
concerning the four corners area in 1947, summer. |

the classic explanation as to why hoyt vandenberg and john luis vonn neumann
recommended to our POTUS harry s. truman that there be a cover-up of the
roswell saucer incident is that perhaps the recent memory was very fresh
of orson welles's mercury theatre halloween broadcasting of his radio play
based on h.g well's book "WAR OF THE WORLDS" that created quite a
sensation in its day.
when reading the news story i couldn't help but think perhaps EFC was an
attempt by TRIBUNE BROADCASTING co-jointly with the CANADIAN GOV'T
to explore some of the issues around inter-species FIRST CONTACT.
almost to be a military scenario at heart dovetailing with this story.
the simplified approach to UFO sightings loosly can toss accounts into either
a "space brothers" folder or an ID4 takeover scenario... EFC became almost
a trojan horse scripting when TRIBUNE's writers pool toyed with the idea of
alien metabolisms and intent. the TAELONs were very much like the
==================TALOSIANs================
of Talos 4 from the pilot episode of classic STAR TREK
that was filmed in 1964. Its only in EARTH FINAL CONFLICT's
2nd season that we did learn that they were "shapeshifting" reptoids...
As the writing went downhill by degrees if not south, EFC began to explore
the theme of an alien overlord caste of sapient evolved e.ts who never were
quite clear in their intent. in the beginning the taelons were either
uni-sexual or asexual beings. they definately had a unique biology. !!!

think originally GENE RODDENBERRY wanted either cuttlefish DNA or chameleon
DNA if not jellyfish DNA to explain his e.ts, the ones he created for EFC's pilot
script that he tried to sell to the network people in 1975. it is a re-working of
the pilot episode in 1997 and an attempt to reconstruct the original series
storyarc 'bible' after contacting D.C FONTANA and other close friends of
his that led to EFC going on the air...by that September.
the first six episodes are the high art of the writing. the fans have a
pantheon of perfectly brilliantly written EFC episodes also after season 1,
and although season 5 had a string of clunkers, "ART OF WAR" with its clips
from previous seasons and a stellar performance from VON FLORES is
very watchable in fan terms.
EFC is almost the "where its at" that the contact fears evidently lead
our two great north american govt's most paranoid into...again this is echoes
of the panic triggered by mr. Orson Welles! there seems an ambivilency
amoungst the powerful. they dread and desire FIRST CONTACT.
maybe the metaphor is more as if we are in our latterday terms like the
Incas and the Aztecs. fleeting glimpses of vessels prior to the year 1450 hinted that
europeans could exist, and longterm myths and legends talked of strangers,
however nothing in their lore anticipatedly warned the native americans of the
cultural imperialism of the cousins from CASTILLE...pizzaro + cortez.----
