What medication is s/he on? We just put my son on Concerta (18mg) a few days ago. He seems to do better with attention and seems to be "getting" more. But he also seems to be bolder. We had him on Adderall before and it was horrible. It turned my sweet boy into a rude, aggressive, irritated monster.
Anyway, I was curious what else is out there and how it worked.
Thanks! |

daughter is currently dxed with ADHD, although i don't agree with the dx...........at any rate, she tried concerta but hallucinated while she was on it .......now she takes Geodon & Tenex- she is definitely less anxious than she had been-no crying in school anymore, no licking herself... |

My 8 yr old son is dxed Aspergers, and in my view meets a lot of the inattention criteria for ADHD. I am experimenting with Phosphatydil Serine at the moment (non-medical) and seem to be having some success, along with fish oil.
The whole issue of some meds working for some and not for others is very interesting. The following is a link to a site dedicated to using PS for ADHD, and the first message on the post contains a link to an article that explains why some meds make things better/worse for ADHD. It is reasonably technical, so you have to want to read it, but it is very enlightening.

The thing I find the most interesting is that they say that the whole ADHD spectrum includes a range of different things going on for different people. The implication being that you can't necessarily just prescribe one standard medication (eg. Ritalin) for all ADHD cases, and rely on it to work. Which is kind of interesting considering that I mainly hear (in my part of the world)that Ritalin gets trotted out for ADHD almost as soon as it is diagnosed. |

just as a general rule, meds that deal with any sort of neurological disorder or psychiatric disorder do not work the same on everybody. we went through probably a 1/2 dozen anti-anxiety meds before we found ones that worked for our son....the same goes for my husband. what i can say from my experience is that if a med works on 1 member of your family, the chances are that it will work on other members.
my daughter will be 10 on thursday, btw. |

| My daughter has ADHD, its mild and the inattentive type. Her pediatrician did not want to put her on anything yet as she is doing pretty well in school (she is in grade 1) and she said to give it a year. But the drug she would probably go on is Strattera since it helps with anxiety.. as she does have some anxiety, my ASD son also has anxiety and we are sure he has ADHD.. but they won't diagnose him yet as he is still too young for it... |

MEDICATION!! OOhh Annie and I are on exactly the same wavelength. Regulars here will already know that I am a BIG PS fan! I have yet to meet anyone that it does not have SOME effect on...........ALL good! If PS is not going to work then it simply kicks out of the system within 4-8hrs.
The forum is great if you want to know more. Slowly the word is getting around. There are clinical trials on PS in Israel for kids with ADHD at the moment. It is having very good results so far.
Gentle, safe, non prescription and NO HEADACHES. Anyone on here ever experienced a RITALIN headache? ( not that I am against Ritalin used in the right circumstances!), I have been on Ritalin myself ( well senile adult actually diagnosed with ADHD) and was crippled with rebound headaches and fuzziness when it wore off.
So for us it is a miracle. My children are on PS solely. Even though it is a non essential amino acid it should not be underestimated and the best results we have found are those using it without mixing it with anything else.
Anyway I will stop rambling now. Do check out Annies link though, they are a great bunch and very gentle and kind! Good luck Wrong Planet is the most brilliant for ASC and the choice of many of us on the spectrum, you are in the right place!!
Here it is again!

And if you need any behavioural tips or sleep problems corrected we may be able to help! ADHD is something many groan and moan at BUT ya know ADHD is actually a gift, it is just a matter of finding your child's strengths and gifts, working on the postives and then the negatives don't seem as troublesome. ADHD children are always very friendly and desperately want to be liked, let's embrace them all and nurture them so they can grow into the wonderful people that they are.
