No I wasn't suicidal. Chalk this up to poor motor skills.
7:25pm local time - I'm hungry so I get my coat and shoes on to head over to union to buy myself dinner. I have to go down a flight of stairs to get out my dorm, as I take the first step, I forget to take a full step with my right foot and I stumble. I lost my balance. I grabbed the railing and managed to hold on with my right hand. I wound up lying on my side on the steps.
This would not be the first time I fell down a flight of stairs - I've done such a thing twice before, both times falling in a manner that I slide down down the steps on my butt.
But this time I started to fall head first, due to the nature of the steps, had I not caught myself, I would have landed head first, slamming my skull into the concrete landing halfway between second and first floor causing a great deal of damage.
I've always had this premonition from since I was a little kid that I was going to be dead at a young age - tonight I think I cheated death. _________________ I live my life to prove wrong those who said I couldn't make it in life... |

You can't die. We'd miss you too badly.
Perhaps you can take an elevator next time? Or at least a door that exits onto level ground or a wheelchair ramp? Hmm. |

| I once rode a bike down a hill really fast, went out of control, flew over the handlebars, and hit a rock with my head. I'm fine but the rock will never be the same again... </rimshot> |

When I was younger I fell a lot, including headfirst down a bunkbed ladder. I hit each step with my head and fell over when I hit the floor. I think I was about 3 or 4 years old.
I seem to have really good motor coordination in some areas (I was a good basketball player and great at assembling tiny models), and horrible in others. I fell more often before I went on a gluten free diet.
The consequence is that I never hurry on stairs.

I usually have a death-grip on the railing!
Scoots, do you now have post-traumatic stress disorder? *joke* |

Scoots, are you alright? That title of the thread scared me for a moment... _________________ Itaque incipet.

I'm doing fine - I wrenched my right shoulder good, and this morning it's kind of sore, but I survived with only bruised pride. _________________ I live my life to prove wrong those who said I couldn't make it in life... |

When I was a kid, a friend and I decided we were going to be stuntmen when we grew up. We actually spent some time learning to do realistic falls and stuff. Its come in handy from time to time. Once in Jr. High I forgot my gym clothes (again). One more time and I would have failed the grading period. Being a quick and somewhat demented thinker I did a graceful shoulder roll down 2 flights of stairs in front of the phys ed teacher, then claimed my ankle hurt. Got me out of PE for a week. _________________ When you're sitting with a beatiful girl an hour seems like a second. When you're sitting on a hot coal a second seems like an hour. | Hmm is falling down the stairs a sign of Asperger's? I mean I fall down the stairs on a weekly basis at home, sometimes I fall up the stairs. (I.e. tripping as I walk up the stairs). I think this calls for some research. I know bad handwriting is supposed to be common (I'm guilty of it), but stair falling didn't make the criteria, hmmm.... |

I've fallen both up and down my stairs a few times. But I run up and down mine, so it was nothing but a mis-footing. _________________ (Currently undergoing personality reboot) |

| Yeah, I like to run up and down stairs too. Plus I'm 6'2" (188cm) so I like to take a lot of steps at a time. Sometimes I jump like 4 steps at a time going down. Sometimes I just slip and slide down. It's not fun. I think my clumsiness is like my #2 Asperger symptom. |
