My dad gave a serious talk to me last night about finding a job (which i have been doing but has been a bit unsuccessful) and also i shouldnt spend so much time indoors as its unhealthy, i think i agree with him there, but it doesnt help that i hate where i live and dont like walking around in this area.

My dad phoned today saying the shop where he works have run out of newspapers and asked me to go down to the shop to buy one. Now to me this is so obviously connected to what he was saying last night, and he most probably lying just to get me out the house. He asked if i wanted to go, and before I gave an answer he said "nah its ok, ill walk down to the shop near where i work". This made me feel so very guilty, and I was going to say yes but he kinda knew i didnt want to go so didnt bother wait for my response. Im sure he was just trying to get me out the house, but now i feel really bad.

when i was away at university i had no problem going out, as long as it was on my own and i had a purpose (shopping, doctors etc). But where i live now, its so quiet and im bound to see some neighbours walking about that i probably have to speak to. This is why i love the city so much, so many strangers outside who are lik walking zombies without a care, and i can just go about my business without having to talk to anyone. In quiter areas it seems like i have to look at eveyone i walk past and say hello or smile, i hate doing that as i find i hard to put on a smile sometimes and i often look up facing them but cannot make eye contact, they probably think im a freak anyway.

Anyone else like this ?

I suppose not much point to this post, another one of those self centred ones. I felt i just has to get it off my chest though. Sorry guys.

I had that exact same chat off my mum a few nights ago. I could do without it right now, having self diagnosed only 3 weeks ago, so i still have plenty of personall s*** to work out.

I quite like it once im out, having a little adventure but at times its hard to get the motivation together. The local area isnt so rough i cant walk about relatively safely, but ive been here two years & seen everything 100 times already. Theres always public transport in/out of london and the possibility of new exciting places, but it takes a fair amount of forward planning & organising on the previous day, otherwise i just end up hanging about indoors until its toolate to bother.

my dad is trying to get my arse out the door and look for a job on my own and to "get some fresh air." but I have an anxiety about going almost anywhere in public by myself.

I don't mind going out because I live in a small city and the times I go out I am unlikely to run into a lot of people I know. I struggle to just go out, though. I have to have some purpose.

I like going outside but getting a job is still hard for me... summer should be for relaxation and the rest of the year should be for studying.

I like going outside because it gives me a chance to amuse people.

That's normal here. I don't mind going outside during the winter, because weather is finally enjoyable for me. I don't really interact with people much though, I just go to the bookstore and read comics mostly. If I see some frineds, I'll probably hang with them for awhile and then go back to doing whatever.

LOL

Thats exactly why i love London, the hustle and bustle. But yeah when the tubes get crowded it is pretty bad when the smelliest guy has his armpit right next to your face. But i love walking around the city, down the little side streets, going to see my brother and stuff. I plan to move to the city, but need to find a job first !!

Endersdragon, at least you still study. Now i dont do anything unless i work. I could do further study but dont want to be funded by my parents anymore.

I do think staying indoors makes it worse though. I remember i hadnt left the house (well aprt from going into the garden) for about 2 weeks and when i went to see the doctor about something, i found it really hard to talk to the receptionist, i never had a problem before, but my heart was beating fast. I do tend to get nervous like this during interviews but not something as simple as telling the receptionist i had arrived ! But indoors just feels too comfortable and it hard to motivate myself to leave, espeically i dont have many friends to see.

Ok I just had to comment, I love doing this too. Wearing shorts, t-shirt, while snowing...Im comfortable, but i enjoy the odd looks.

Secondly, Jonny, I feel for you. I am the same way, I hated going out to do something If I didnt want to deal with people. And finding a job means people. Which is why I LOVE internet applications.
I dont walk around here either, crappy apartment area lots of people. If i lived in the mountains, I would love to go outside, Providing it isnt hot, of course.

Live amongst touchy feely granola yuppies like I do and no one will notice...
Or, live amongst other ASCs with the same result.
I wear sandals or sock unless I am at work or in a medical setting in which case I wear combat boots...
