hubby, who's an aspie, wants me to post this question for him( he's dyslexic too, and has a great fear of typing)....... Every night when he goes to sleep, he has to have pillows surrounding him like a cocoon. he literally has a place for each one of his 8 pillows. ( one goes behind his back, 2 under his head, one on top of his head etc).....does anyone else coccoon themselves like this ?

I don't have to have them surrounding me, but I have 8 pillows on my bed as well... I have one behind all of the pillows to stop them falling backwards (it's a bolster) and then I have two upright pillows to stop more pillows falling and then I have two on each side of the middle of the bed and a banana pillow in the middle. If it's not like that I freak out... I lost a pillow once and I was distraught Embarassed

That would be way too many pillows for me, but I do have a habit of sleeping with a pillow between my knees. I only sleep on my side and I have used a pillow between my legs since my youth when my ballet instructor encouraged us boys to do this as it was supposed to help our "turn out". If I don't have a pillow between my knees, it's really hard to get to sleep. I also have a stuffed "Buster Brown" doll I hug.

Not me, but because of the piercings in my ears (eleven in each ear) I find it difficult to sleep with my ear crushing up against me, which is trick because I'm a fetal-position side-sleeper. Thus, I lie with my ear between two pillows, which supports my head but lets my ear stay out of a painful position.

I have... *counts* between 8 and 9 pillows on my couch (I have a couch and not a bed). Of course, part of this is to make the couch more squishy. But I also love to snuggle up against a line of pillows which I have against the back of the couch. And also to have a pillow in my arms, under my head (of course), a large one beneath my lower legs and feet, and just pillows any where else they'll fit.

For your husband, it's probably a sensory comfort thing. As for me, it's both physical comfort (it's not the most comfortable couch in the world) and sensory. Though I don't like to be surrounded on ALL sides. Only one. But I'd feel almost agoraphobic if I had to sleep on a flat-planed bed.

Ditto. Unless the room is unusually cold. Then ANY warmth feels good.

heh, one pillow for my head and then two of those long "body pillows" on the side. I sleep very poorly with only one pillow.

My non-ASD son sleeps in a nest of pillows but can make due with one. My Dx'ed son uses one or none.

On a different note, my younger son is also dyslexic and i have tendancies in that direction. Please let your husband know that boards are much more dyslexic friendly then I thought they would be. If he has an interest, he might want to start on the "Adults with Learning Disabilities" board on www.LDonline.org Its a very forgiving board and a great way for LD adults to learn netequette. (although its a bit slow and has troll issues from time to time.)

I sleep with one pillow and a stuffed animal - but changing that pillow is a great big issue - I go to all sorts of different stores until I find 'The New Pillow' and end up buying some that do not end up being right before I find the right one . . .

I sleep with just one pillow, but my daughter has to have like every stuffed animal she owns in bed with her, to the point that there is almost no room for her. She's come in to us in the middle of the night before wanting us to tell Froggy Bear, or Pillow Dog or one of her other friends to stop pushing her out of bed.

By the way, Sophist's avatar reminds me of Dick VanDyke.

I have 2 pillows (one small and firm and one big comfy one that your head just sinks right into) but use only one. I regularly alternate between them depending on which one is more comfortable at a given time. But regardless, I'm constantly turning and flipping it because the heat from my head makes the designated side of the pillow too warm and it also flattens. I can't stand sleeping with my head against an already flattened down pillow.

Both my AS son and I create nests. We also need small spaces to sleep. We don't make the nests with just pillows but that would be an option.

I have two pillows. I have then right next (end to end) to each other, so I can roll across my queen sized bed (I move around alot at night) and not fall off the end of one.

I like being wrapped in blankets.

Oh yeah...being wrapped in blankets is awesome, or just when you're tucked in real well. I actually like sleeping bags for that reason too. And as for pillows, it's always one for my head and one for my knees...
